Minneapolis, Minnesota — May 16, 2016 — In celebration of Black Music Month the Capri Theatre on Broadway will be full of lights, action and sounds on Friday, June 17 with The Wenso Ashby Project. This will be a concert full of music from the funky to the smooth. Contemporary Jazz artist Wenso Ashby showcases his production skills by infusing a wide variety of worldwide singers and performers to celebrate music while supporting a great cause. Proceeds from the concert will directly benefit urban youth throughout the Urban Solutions outlet programs.
The show is a must-see for anyone seeking positive and uplifting live music. The Wens Ashby Project will include a 5-piece band with spoken word, hip hop, R&B, Neo-Soul and Jazz performers. The opening act will include students from the Capri Theatre.
Urban Solutions CEO Tanisha Gibson stated, “We needed to bring a top flight artist to the historical Capri to continue the legacy and heighten the awareness of a positive urban culture that is far too often overlooked in the city of Minneapolis. The musical talents of Mr. Ashby are known internationally, which helps tremendously in bringing a fan base to not only financially support the community, but to encourage others to take part, as well, in building and demonstrating the excellence surrounding our neighborhoods.”
While The Wenso Ashby Project is not be the biggest name to ever play the revered Capri Theater, which is known to be the opening stage for Minneapolis’ own son, Prince, he is humbled to know that one of the greatest to have ever played in the building or any building for that matter shared a similar compassion to want to help others. The spirit of music can move people to unite and bring about a social conscience of good.
This concert will be a true representation of Back Music Month in that The Wenso Ashby Project will provide excellent musicianship along with a wide a variety of styles ranging from Spoken Word to Smooth Jazz. This is more than a concert it is a social movement that provides the opportunity for people share, build and unite while being moved by positive music.
