Musician For The Times - John Burton to release next album, host Hohm From Here radio/podcast.
Katonah, NY Westchester — Wednesday, June 10th, 2020 — Radio/podcast host & musician, the soulful John Burton is bringing his moving, hilarious, and profound show and concert series to a national audience. Hohm From Here is hosted by Burton, and features touchstone interviews with musicians and actors about their work, their process, and most importantly, their life journey. The show can be heard nationally on Spotify. His debut album, “As You Do” is set for release at the end of the summer, 2020.
John Burton is an equal parts master musician and master story-teller. Fed by his own journey, from a two-year depressive episode and prison to a rebirth as a someone “in touch with my day to day” – Burton’s show uplifts as it highlights each artist’s own struggles and how they were overcome while his music and lyrics tell a story better told with emotion than the word.
“My work is for broken people, people not afraid to feel everything, and people who want positivity,” Burton says, “the show and the album are hands in hand, walking down the road of recovery from a mental health crisis and now joy in being on the other side of all that.” Critics agree, writing, “As premier a lyricist as he is a guitar player, Burton’s voice and music soar at the same time as they break, they weep for both joy and sorrow, and they all wind up in the same place – love.”
Burton’s journey has been nothing if not comprehensive, and his telling of his own as well as his exploration of others’ matches that intensity. One moment hilarious, the next moment insightful, one-moment bellowing, and the next moment whispering, Burton’s work is as sweet as it is painful. “Maybe I lived the first two-thirds of my life so that I could spend the last third talking about it,” Burton shrugs, “but I do know this much. Everyone has been touched by mental illness in some form, everyone has that place where their heart can be pierced, and everyone deserves joy. We want to talk about things openly, sing about them with poignancy, break hearts so that they can heal better than they were.”
“This is a combination that you find at the highest point of the singer/songwriter craft,” writes another critic. “Burton’s show passes in a flash but stays with you long after, and his music combines the mellow of James Taylor with an arpeggio style unique amongst guitarists. Burton has mastered his craft at its apex, and missing his work is missing some of what is good about life.” Hohm From Here and As You Do can be found exclusively on Spotify and iTunes.
