Boston — Tuesday, July 9th, 2019 — Miss Cactus & the Desert always brings a special, 70s diva type flare to her music and visuals while at the same time touching upon important topics. Her music video for “Magia” is not an exception as it serves as a love letter to the Latinx communities, as it urges them to embrace their features, skin color and magical culture. The video was shot in LA and its incredibly dreamy scenes can take you to another worldly experience, without mentioning the excellent dancing and choreography performed by Miss Cactus and her back up dancers. The song comes off her recent EP OASIS where Miss Cactus delivers five tracks that travel through the journey of self-acceptance as a woman of color and immigrant.
It became clear that Miss Cactus had a unique and fun concept when the music video for single “Dating School” dropped this past February. The video accumulated several press reviews and over 8k views and it got everybody excited for the release of the soul reggae artist’s first EP OASIS, which just dropped on June 28th. Now on Friday the 12th, Miss Cactus will be dropping the music video for the most loved song in the EP so far “Magia,” which also happens to be the first only one the artists’ native language of Spanish.
Below are some words from a few of several writers who have reviewed the Jersey grown artist’s work:
“Miss Cactus’ voice, smoldering with erogenous timbres and simmering eroticism, secures the song’s flow and rippling tumescence. This is a diva’s voice, rife with buff suggestive hues, alluring and hypnotic.”- Tattoo.com (in regards to Dating School Music Video)
“The songwriting has a lucid clarity that elevates the best dub tracks, complemented by an eerie flow and a healthy dose of dripping atmosphere.”- YrAlbum (in regards to Laugh at the Confusion)
“Between the elements of tropical dance, the self-assured attitude of Miss Cactus & The Desert, and the whimsical world that they create, listeners will get wrapped up in it.” – Music Court Blog
With its infectious reggae groove during the chorus and layering harmonies, Magia is truly as magical as the title claims it to be. Its accompanying music video shows Miss Cactus as well as her dancers flowing through a ritualistic choreography that is the symbol of sisterhood among different complexions of women of color, as well as several other surreal settings. It is a completing piece to the brand new EP OASIS, which navigates the listener through the different stages of empowerment.
