G.A.M. Records announces the release of Only Yesterday ~ Remembering The Carpenters from indie artist, Barbara J.
Santa Monica, CA – Thursday, February 11th, 2021 — G.A.M. Records this week announced the release of the latest album from Barbara J., Only Yesterday ~ Remembering The Carpenters, available everywhere on February 14, 2021.
Only Yesterday ~ Remembering The Carpenters is a retrospective of some of the greatest hits of one of the music industry’s most famous duos. Brother and sister recording team, Richard and Karen Carpenter rose to fame recording adult contemporary/soft pop songs that have stood the test of time. Barbara J. covers the hit singles, “Close to You,” and “We’ve Only Just Begun,” along with other fan favorites from the famous siblings. One song that fans may not recognize, “The Uninvited Guest,” was originally recorded in 1980 for The Carpenters’ Made in America album with Karen singing only a guide vocal, but due to lack of space, the song was never finished or released. Six years after the untimely death of Karen Carpenter, Richard Carpenter released Lovelines, in 1989. Included on the album was “The Uninvited Guest, with Karen’s original “scratch” vocal. One of the song’s writers, Jeffrey Tweel, accompanies Barbara on her rendering of a song addressing a subject not typical of the hallmark love song repertoire from the time-honored musical team.
This is Barbara J.’s third album. Singles from her first two studio efforts, Sundown: A Gordon Lightfoot Retrospective (©2014), and A Box Full of Records (©2019), saw significant success on various Indie Radio charts, and her cover and video of “If You Could Read My Mind,” the Gordon Lightfoot folk pop classic, received critical acclaim via Independent music blogs and social media critics, alike.
“Barbara has a laid-back and natural approach that never pushes or pulls too hard; instead she allows the introspective lyrics and beautifully-crafted melodies…to unfold with grace and tenderness.”
Sylvie Marie & Staff, HerSong Music Bog (August 20ushes20)
Songs from this and all of Barbara J.’s album are played across online streaming venues and are available via most digital music retailers.

Barbara J. is a Southern California singer songwriter known most notably for her two latest releases “Sundown: A Gordon Lightfoot retrospective” and “A Box Full of Records”.
Barbara spent her formative years paying the usual dues in folk groups, choirs and rock cover bands before moving to Southern California. She began writing songs but was always drawn to some of the songs that were the soundtrack of her youth. She eventually reached out to her cousin, Jim Reilley (of alt rock band The New Dylans), who was a producer and session player in Nashville. Together they began sharing back and forth songs they mutually were inspired by and one of the big common threads that emerged was a mutual love of Gordon Lightfoot. A few quick text messages compiled a list of favorites and as fast as the notion came, they began recording “Sundown: A Gordon Lightfoot Retrospective”. Reilley roped in his Nashville pals Eric Fritsch and Jake Clayton and the album was recorded in Nashville and LA in 2014. Featuring a well cultivated collection of some of Lightfoot’s best works, the album was an immediate success on independent radio. Barbara’s cover of “If You Could Read My Mind” has received great reviews and attention and several of the other tracks have had their share of time on various indie music charts including Reverbnation, Pandora and Number1music blogs.
Her second album, the more eclectic “A Box Full of Records” began life as a few follow up singles that eventually led to a full-length collection. Featuring songs from the 1970’s and 1980’s, Barbara did some soul searching and picked songs from artists as disparate as Electric Light Orchestra, The Carpenters and Poco. Reilley also helmed the production of this album and along with some of the same personnel as “Sundown,” as well as Michael Webb of Poco, the album was released in 2019 to similar indie radio success.
Barbara is currently putting the finishing touches on her third album of covers this time focusing on the music of The Carpenters. Tentatively titled “Only Yesterday” the album is expected in mid-February 2021
