Duke Charelle and Funkadelic Team up for Album

DUKE CHARELLE featuring the P-Funk Outlawz BEYOND THE MAGICK MIRROR

Detroit, Michigan — Tuesday, October 5th, 2021 — Nu Funk artist Deondre Duke Charelle announces an upcoming tour with the P-Funk Outlawz. The tour is in support of Charelle’s latest album release Beyond the Magick Mirror available on Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, Touchtunes, and YouTube. Two singles from the record, Liquid Galaxies and Tantric Dance are both in regular rotation at iHeart Radio and Progwave Radio in the UK, as part of Sony’s playlist deal.

Voted Best Funk Song 2016 from The Akademia Music Awards in Los Angeles, the original version of Tantric Dance also garnered Charelle Best Performer by Eastern Michigan University Professors and a nomination for Best Blues Band at the Detroit Music Awards. Regular play on the college circuit in Michigan, North Carolina, Florida and Atlanta, fueled online polls at NME UK keeping Charelle on their charts four years in a row. “It was so popular, I decided to cut a full-bodied version of the song,” says Charelle. He tapped with the P-Funk Outlaws whom he’d been jamming with to sold-out shows across Detroit. Tantric Dance the Funkadelic Remix was born.

Audiences compare the pairing to the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Prince and the Revolution. “Yeah, that’s my cousin,” Charelle cites his cousin, Darrell “Mr. Guitar” Fields, who played with both bands, as one of his earliest influences. The P-Funk Outlawz’ regular lineup that backs Charelle includes Dean Ragland (Bootsy Collins, Prince, and George Clinton), Kount Funkula, aka Lonnie Greene (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame George Clinton’s P-Funk Camp), Tony “Strat” Thomas, and Greg “G Rock” Sanders also of the original P-Funk lineup. Deondre Duke Charelle started playing classical music at the age of 8.

He counts Eric Clapton and Parliament Funkadelic amongst his greatest influences. Deondre quickly became a multi-instrumentalist practicing four hours a day, adding jazz music theory and slam poetry to his musical self-education. He wrote a song for his high school history class and played it at Ann Arbor’s infamous folk music venue The Ark. Deondre took fourth place in a guitar solo battle at Ann Arbor’s nationally recognized teen club, The Neutral Zone. His other projects include the Yorg Kerasotis (Bump, Uncle Kracker), and T Money Green (The Dramatics, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre) production of Lin-Say.
