Sergio Pagnacco, also known as Dr. Schafausen, is a highly versatile Italian musician, bassist, and composer who has made significant contributions to the metal scene. He played a pivotal role as one of the founding members of the renowned band Vanexa, which has been active since 1979, and he further showcased his talent and artistry as a member of the power prog band Labyrinth from 2009 to 2016.
Sergio’s exceptional bass playing style, characterized by its remarkable aggression, has also garnered him recognition in the punk circuit. From 2002 to 2005, he lent his talents to the street punk band Klasse Kriminale, delivering electrifying performances at numerous international festivals and sharing stages with esteemed acts such as GBH and Ska-P. Beyond his musical pursuits, Sergio has pursued a parallel career as a doctor of audiology, demonstrating his dedication to both music and science.
The artist also served as a lecturer at the University of Medicine and Surgery of Genoa from 2009 to 2018, where he imparted his expertise in cochlear implants, digital acoustic prostheses, and pediatric prosthetics. Sergio actively participates in humanitarian missions with HALO, providing hearing prostheses to deaf children in Southeast Asia, showcasing his commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others.
In 2016, Sergio Pagnacco made the decision to fully dedicate himself to Vanexa, leaving Labyrinth definitively. In that same year, he achieved remarkable success with Vanexa, as their single topped the Amazon charts in the Heavy & Hard section. Following this triumph, the band released their highly acclaimed album titled “Too Heavy To Fly” through Punishment 18 Records and Black Widow Records, solidifying their status as a powerful force.
