Bio: Stovehandle Dan Jackson

Born in Western Tennessee, Stovehandle Dan was exposed to Bluegrass and Country music by his grandfather who played banjo and was friends with other musicians. They would all get together on a Saturday night and listen to the Grand Ole Opry and then play until the wee hours of the morning. Stovehandle Dan was barely two years old when his Grandfather shoved a kid's guitar in his hands and got him to play.

Stovehandle Dan took piano lessons for 11 years and dabbled in guitar while learning the basics on piano. Guitar became his one true love at the tender age of 8. He has played instruments with strings on them ever since.

He played bass for L.B. Farell and the Starlighters at age 14 and graduated to rock and roll later while attending Central High School in Murfreesboro, TN, 30 miles South of Nashville, TN. He played in various bands during those formative years, one band in particular, later became famous as “Goose Creek Symphony”. In his Senior year he started work at Opryland and was influenced by Country Stars that frequented the amusement park.

After a stint in the Air Force, followed by a few years of school, romance, and local bands, he settled in the Belleville, IL area. There he met Larry Moser and Tim Albert and formed Dogshew Review, a bluegrass and Southern Rock group based in Belleville. He also met Randy Roberts and Paul Renois at that time and played for a short while in Randy’s band Rocking Horse.

Dan had recorded a few songs at Eddie Fisher Studios with Tim and Randy and received some air time on KSHE radio during a promotion of local music sponsored by that radio station in 1979. One song appears in an upgraded version on this album. The song is "Down the Line", formerly known as “Straight on Down the Line”.

Over a period of about 20 years or so, Stovehandle Dan, Tim Albert, and Paul Renois played together in different original bands & configurations, the most notable being Dogshew Review & Uncle Albert Band. Tim and Dan landed the Monday Night gig at “Hammerstone’s” in the late 90’s as a duo and have held it ever since.

The current album, “Call Me Stove” has 10 selections. Released in February of 2021 and not affiliated with any label, it shows the depth of writing and reflects the musical influences from his youth. The entire album was written, performed, mixed, and produced by Stovehandle Dan himself and mastered and copied at CD Baby.

Currently, he plays locally at Hammerstone’s in Soulard, every Monday night from 7:00 pm til 10:00 pm with Tim Albert, Randy Roberts, and Paul Renois as part of the group, "Cement Hollow”. Cement Hollow has an album out, “Cement Hollow Road”, that was released in 2019 and features acoustic-based instrumentation and vocal harmonies. There are 3 original songs and 7 cover songs that feature the vocal and instrumental abilities of Tim “Uncle" Albert, “Stovehandle” Dan Jackson, and Randy “Blind Lime" Roberts. Paul Renois, mentioned earlier, a talented musician and close associate, now plays bass and acoustic guitar with the band in Soulard on Monday nights.
