The pleasure of creating, the pleasure of sharing
Versions 'N' Not 8 album
is first and foremost an album of respect, for his influences and for himself. Mario Deschênes, under the name
OneSelf, creates the best music he can produce. He's gone to the limits of himself, in his writing and in his music.
His method of realization has also changed, his musical production has become more refined, and he has discovered other musical territories.
This has improved the decision-making process when it comes to mastering his songs.
Author, Composer, Performer, Producer, Guitarist, Painter, Videographer and Photographer.
He is proud to respect his musical past, to include his musical present, and to give us a glimpse of the musicality of his next albums. He's already thinking about the next one.
He's just as generous in offering us his new music for our own enjoyment; he likes to make us happy. We certainly won't sulk at listening to and seeing his musical world.
Mario's videos are also well worth the detour, and he doesn't shy away from giving us a feast for the eyes and ears.
He's as generous and creative as ever in the creative process.
He chooses the words and sounds and the treatment of these sounds with a patience that characterizes him so well, because as he says:
“I am at the service of my musical creations. This album,
Versions 'N' Not 8, is the best version of myself, of my own identity.
With this album, as a multi-disciplinary creator,
he gives himself the means to achieve his ambitions.
Versions 'N' Not 8 begins with an idea.
Shortly after the release of his previous album,
Seven Eleven OneSelf Featuring Mario Deschenes.
He stumbled across some lyrics he'd written and said to himself, “The lyrics are good, maybe I could make the music a bit more topical and record them for my next album.”
Three texts caught his attention, and he began to rework the lyrics, merging choruses and verses and composing other music. The result is different versions of the same song. The idea came to him like a bolt of lightning.
This is the theme and title of his next album. He will add versions of old texts revisited as well as new songs and instrumental pieces. The structure has been found. He has written and composed
16 songs and musical pieces, and over
20 videos, for his new album.
As you can see,
Versions 'N' Not 8 is an album with a difference, one that pushes him out of his comfort zone.
Authentic, unique and original songs that invite us to tap our toes, we recognize that characteristic
OneSelf style - that
voice, the
catchy melodies, the
driving rhythms, the drums that beats time with pleasure, encouraging us to move to the rhythm of
the various musical moods.
From the very first notes, we're in the land of knowledge, that sound so typical of Rock and Blues, coupled with his touch and gestures that make
all his creations and compositions bear his signature.
Versions 'N' Not 8 is divided into different parts.
First Season (Opening Theme) is the opening track. The album's introduction is dominated by an instrumental piece, which translates and represents what you'll discover when listening
to Versions 'N' Not 8.
This is followed by 4 songs from her musical past.
This Is Her Eyes,
Tell Her Tell You (As I Told You Too)
( Your Eyes) Eyes Of a Life. To close the first part,
Forget Her 2.
OneSelf Featuring Mario Deschenes re-visit old songs, giving them new life.
The second instrumental piece,
Entre Deux Raisons (Middle Theme), gives us a foretaste of what's to come.
4 new songs,
Does This Thought, which accompanies the other 3 more recent songs, which are
Your Mother, My Mother - In - Law,
Letter To My Soul and
I Need Her Help (I'm So Busy)
Another instrumental song,
Simple Fonction De L'Intermède (Ending Theme)
OneSelf pushes the boundaries even further.
Last part of 4 songs, French this time, it doesn't take anything away from
Versions 'N' Not 8, on the contrary, it ends the album with sound effects, as he began his journey of album creation, he continues his sound research which is an integral part of the 4 songs.
La Souffrance (Mène à L'Espoir) inspired by an old friend.
La Dame Seule Au Salon, in memory of his mother's experience.
L'Éveilleur Éclairé (The Enlightened Awakener), a touch of nostalgia for the past.
Versions et Pas (A La Fin) A very personal take on family.....
Versions 'N' Not 8 doesn't come to such an abrupt end, however, and gives us a bonus track to conclude with,
Unicitude ( Unique Link) One of his songs that represents him well.
OneSelf Featuring Mario Deschenes presents us with this composition from one of his previous albums, but with a new sonic face.
If the 16 songs and 20 videos are anything to go by, this bodes very well for his 9th album.
With
Versions 'N' Not 8, it's a date .... You won't want to miss it.
