Capturing compelling themes of coming-of-age, maturity and going through the voyage of life learning lessons, the eclectic artist is inspired to craft his own musical identity.

Biography

A magnetic force in the world of Hip Hop and Rap, growing sensation, Raphael better known by his musical name, Amey was born in St. Thomas Virgin Islands in 1989, and later moved to Springfield, Virginia in 1998. However, because his mother could not afford to bear the crippling costs of living, Raphael’s family was evicted, while the artist was only 13. Throughout his childhood, the budding artist had to move from one place to another, facing eviction more than 14 times in the next 4 years, living in multiple homeless shelters for sustenance and a roof over their head. However, young Raphael remained steadfast in the pursuit of his talents, despite any hurdle that life threw his way. Growing into a 3-sport athlete, Raphael excelled in baseball, football and basketball, and even went on to play college football and baseball at Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucy, garnering massive accolades.

Before graduating college in 2012, Amey amassed widespread acclaim and achievements, being selected to play in the 2011 HBCU Bowl, being named Male Athlete of the Year, and the Talent Pushers Inc. Thorobreds Player of the Year and being voted HSRN National Player of the Week. A seasoned talent, Amey went onward to sign his first professional contract in 2013 with the Montreal Alouettes.

Moving to D.C, the rising artist had to face the pressures of leaving his professional football dreams and pursuits, completely moving away from sports. However, this break from his life-long passion made him struggle immensely with depression and addiction to alcohol and partying, receiving his first DUI in 2015, followed by his second in 2019, for which he faced incarceration. It was during this desolate time of introspection that Amey began writing music, coming up with name and vision of “Last of the 80s”. When Amey was released from jail, he decided to take a chance on himself and “Last of the 80s” was formally birthed- a vibrant and refreshing new voice in music.

Brimming with untapped talent, Last of the 80s manifests itself as an American record label based in the DMV area, assisting artists of all backgrounds and genres to develop and express their artistry. Through this umbrella, Amey released his debut album “Album 1989” to all music platforms on June 25th, 2020. Expressing his unique humor and expressive lyricism through personal and captivating compositions, Amey aims to build his fan base, starting from the DMV area, by stunning listeners at local shows and then gradually growing onward and upward to other states.
