Kate Fay

I grew up in a musical family in 1980s rural Iowa impersonating Whitney Houston, TLC, En Vogue, Janet Jackson and Prince, and fell in love with Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Janis Joplin, Dusty Springfield, Sarah Vaughn and Billie Holiday along the way.

I’ve been singing since age 4 and songwriting since age 12. My songwriting process varies from starting with a melody to starting with a chord structure, and lyrics usually follow. I love singing in bluesy jazz and pop r&b styles and I have a deep love for retro sounding rhythm and blues. The songs I write usually fall into the genres of soul, pop, dance and neo soul. 

I’ve written many songs and have professionally recorded and finished 6 for my first EP, out in November 2019. Writing, singing, recording, collaborating and performing run deep through my veins and make me feel alive.

So far my biggest musical accomplishment is performing at Agganis Arena in Boston at Berklee’s 2016 commencement for about 5,500 people. 

I'm working towards establishing a career in music as a respected singer/songwriter and I am determined to impact my listeners and the industry positively. I strive to pay off my debts from my time at Berklee College of Music and be able to give back to my community in terms of my time, skills and financial resources, with a focus on funding music and the arts in public schools across the U.S.
