The radiant, enchanting, seemingly embodiment of the sun is Jia. A Milwaukee-native, after decades of perfecting her craft and mastering her skills in isolation, the songstress immerses herself in the R&B world as if she’s been here before. With musical influences crossing genres & generations, from Whitney Houston to Paramore, Jia is cultivating a sound bound to transform the feeling of New Age music. Growing up watching Disney movies, with older brothers who were apart of a rap group, and parents who were deeply involved with the church, Music was everywhere she turned. The auditory sponge she is, was able to take in these various sounds, to inspire a new one. The swooning in & out of the percussion spaces feels like dropping her listeners into the world of her memories. Sending them back in time to her moment, it’s a transcending feeling. Her playful childlike approach to life can be heard throughout her music. In a world where trends are what gets everything viral, Jia states her struggle with being a digital artist. “Social media always felt forced & unnatural to me. I had to capture apart of myself and give ppl this 2D aspect of myself. It felt limiting. It made me feel like I didn’t know who I was because I didn’t know how to pick out certain parts of myself to share” I feel most myself away from people but my isolation doesn’t serve anyone but myself. So it’s above that desire. It’s truly bigger than me”. She follows up with “A major part of my purpose in this life is to help heal relationships and strengthen connections. Connect people more deeply with themselves, their family, their lovers, the Earth, their ancestors, your bloodlines relationship to the physical world. Everything is connected and we’re better off when we act like it. I want to reignite people’s passion for life. Your soul’s purpose for sending you to this planet. I want you to feel that and feel moved to find that passion when you listen to my music”.
