About

My name is Dave Hanrahan. I was born and raised in Watertown, Massachusetts. I was the only son in a family of four children. I was born on June 28, 1956 at 08:20am in Cambridge, Mass. In numerology I am a Life Path 1. Known as an original having been born in June the sun was in Cancer. Cancers’ is the Crab and the crab according to mythology serves the goddess. Maybe that is the reason I started in a family of all women and that theme continued throughout my life.

My first introduction into loss would be my dad death when I was seven. I needed a male role model now that I resides in the house of estrogen. The Sunday of that very week he passed was dated February 9, 1964. That night I found my role models when I heard;

‘Ladies and gentlemen it is my honor to introduce to you The Beatles’. I would work to become what they are, prolific songwriters and innovators. The art of songwriting has begun to be programmable. It will never be able to match the human emotion that drives the song. Emotions are not made to be programmable and if artificial then they can never be real. Just ask Pinocchio. My job is to write songs that get the juices of every emotion felt and translate it into songs that the music drives the emotion. Then there is no language barrier.

I became a singer/songwriter from a different era when I walk away in the 1980’s. I had written close to 80 songs when I laid everything down to become a Husband and a father in 1989. I laid it down because I knew I would get distracted by the time and effort required even at the hobby level. I desired a family more then anything in life, certainly more then celebrity. I felt like I missed the father and son relation as the son, so I made certain not to miss it as the father

In November of 2019 I unpacked my instruments after a 30 year hiatus. I wasn't certain if I could even recall the chords to most of my music. It was all in my head. I had taught myself how to play all the instruments. That translates to a student learning from an illiterate instructor. I can't read or write a note to this day. Muscle memory I was happy to find is a fact even after 30 years.

I began playing countless hours a day for about six weeks when suddenly a song popped into my head. It was in a style that even I was unfamiliar with. ‘I Love That Girl’ which has been my most popular song since I started the stream of new songs. I felt as though I picked up where I left off in 1989. I haven't stopped writing since that day two years ago. It was amazing the response I garnered. I am going to become the oldest person to ever launch a successful Music Career at the age most of my peers are retiring.

I have had sixteen songs hit the Top 40 in the Pop and Rock category on SoundCloud Repostexchange From August 18th, 2021 until December 2021. Many had more then one entry into the charts. I have had a least one song in the Top 40 for all but two weeks time. They only allow 2 songs at most per day, per artist. Which is why all 16 aren’t on there at once. This is a poor system for the artist. I am software developer who with a few other like thinkers will come out with a real system that pays and ranks music properly. What a mess this industry is today. No vision means no direction. That will change. I have been in a zone and writing at an unbelievable pace. I have well over 70 more songs to produce to ensure my entire catalogue is recorded. I am still writing new songs at an amazing clip

Thank you for listening and your support. I will make an effort to respond to all comments. If you made time for me I will joyfully reciprocate. As artists we are the crafts used that will usher in the collective consciousness for this hurting world. This world needs a decade of ‘changing of the guard’ out with old in with the new. Where everything feels fresh and change is made. A decade of love. ‘Power to the People’ - John Ono Lennon he was telling us half a century ago.

I waited until I was 65 because I thought if I reached that age and felt irrelevant I thought I would fade away. You all make me feel relevant, that gives me a reason and my reason had been missing for years. We all need a reason. I hope to reward you with pleasant melodies telling real stories. When I started this I wanted to set the bar at it’s highest level. I called myself #AmericanPaulMcCartney that sets the bar at a level I knew I could never eclipse. Let’s leave something beautiful for the future.
