Integrating saxophone, flute, feedback and electronics, electro acoustic pioneer and dedicated improvisor, Bonnie Kane’s, music lives equally in the experimental, ambient, harsh noise, and psychedelic rock arenas. She has toured nationally and worldwide, performing extensively throughout her Eastern USA base from basement clubs to large festivals and concert halls.
A bandleader since the 1990s, with over 40 releases, those she has performed and recorded with include: Godspeed You! Black Emperor, John Spencer Blues Explosion, Tatsuya Nakatani, Chris Forsyth, Kevin Shea, Walter Wright, Andrea Pensado, Chris Strunk, Tracy Lisk, and John Loggia. New collaborations are always evolving.
Her solo work is focused in both the ambient and noise genres, providing a balance between active and relaxed energies. During the pandemic, this has taken the form of 2 online solo shows per week: Afternoon Noise: No Apologies and Transcendent Winds: Hour of Calm. Both shows offer respite from the stress of life at this time, albeit from different angles.
Transcendent Winds is a durational ambient solo flute project using 5 amplifiers. “The Embrace of Above and Below” is her newest release (CD//digital), a 1 hour meditation on living between the earth and sky. Also just released is the “Soothing Flute Atmospheres USB”, consisting of 9 hours of concerts from the Hour of Calm series. The pandemic created a new urgency for the relaxing effects of Transcendent Winds, and the weekly Sunday evening show has developed a loyal following.
The Afternoon Noise: No Apologies show approaches stress from another perspective - it just shreds it! Using her full palette of sax, flute, electronics and feedback, Bonnie exorcises the demons and passions of these times aiming for renewal on a molecular level. New noise releases are in the works - a solo album “Irritations, Inflammations and Uprisings” and an avant-garde psych release with percussionist John Loggia.
In all of her projects, Bonnie’s interest is in what a musician can bring to the moment. Because it is in the moment, that sound can change into magic, souls are nourished, inspiration renewed, and lives changed for the better.
