Andrew Steck
ClassicalAbout
Andrew Steck is a self-taught composer/musician from Athens, Georgia. He has played guitar in hard rock, salsa, and goth bands, electric organ in a garage rock band that was signed to Alive Records (Col. Knowledge & the Lickity-Splits), and banjo in string bands. In 2019, he decided to dedicate his energies towards composing music that would be imaginative, expressive, and musically interesting. To do this, he refreshed himself on his music theory knowledge and started scoring through composition software that could produce realistic playback. His first releases would use a full orchestra on tracks such as surf rock ("100 Nowheres"), tango ("Tango Arcana"), and other styles. Since then, electric guitars, synthesizers, VSTs, and other sound effects have been added to the palette. Andrew's music is often called a soundtrack without a movie. Listeners often respond saying, "This makes me think of this movie scene" or "I'm picturing [this] to the music." The new album release, Sore Thumb, had a review that summed this up by calling it "ballet of the mind." The latest single is called, "What's Your Answer?" which features a flute having a conversation with a horn section while an uptempo rhythm section pulsates steadily and different sonic textures accumulate.
