Interview With an Amazing Woman: Ameerah The Star
By Benjamin Minick
December 2020
The music industry is full of amazing artists; some of them were seemingly plucked from thin air. Others were born with talent. Ameerah was destined to transcend them all and take her place as “The Star” from a young age. That journey is never comfortable, but hers is unique. She isn’t just a performer; she is also a devoted daughter, wife, and mother.
From the age of 5, her talents were readily visible. She recounts, “ One day, I was playing with my teddy bears. I wasn’t allowed to have dolls because they were too European looking. I was singing to them, and my father looked down from his chair and said, “Girl, who taught you how to sing like that?” Nobody, just myself.” Little did she know, natural talent was her gift to humanity.
The next few years were filled with in-home talent shows featuring Ameerah and her siblings. Admittedly, it became evident that these were always designed to feature Ameerah. By the age of 8, Ameerah was performing for family, friends, and public events. At a very young age, she experienced “the rush,” and there was no turning back.
From there, she found herself attending a youth program in Detroit. Little did she know that this would be the beginning of a fantastic experience. The program that she attended just happened to be right down the block from a record company, and the rest is history. The program employed executives from the record company that took notice of her voice, which led her on a path from which there was no return—once bitten twice shy as they say.
While completing school, Ameerah continued to star in audiences. She was quickly signed on to a label that gave her some notoriety but not precisely what she deserved. It was an excellent introduction to the music industry, but it led to networking and not the big break like most things in this industry. She traveled the country and continued to perform, which eventually led her to the West Coast.
Her journey eventually led her to San Diego. She immediately got involved in the music industry on a local level. Working with community leaders and industry professionals, she hosted many shows in the San Diego region. This gave her some notoriety, but it wasn’t quite what she was looking for. However, there were some lessons learned during this period that would benefit her in the future.
You see, when you think about Ameerah, you have to think about the big picture. When it comes to a class act, she is the entire show. She is a unique and talented musician, but she has the brains to run the entire operation independently. That’s right; folks can be the main act and capable of planning the entire operation from start to finish, from opening acts to vendors and stagehands and everything in between. This is one of the beautiful things about this amazing woman.
Fate would further deal her a unique hand by sending her and her family northward to Los Angeles. This is where the story heats up. During all of her years of performances, Ameerah had developed quite the following, which led her to come across the fantastic, talented Malik Yusef. That chance meeting alone would set the stage for what we are experiencing now. You see, when like-minded individuals get together, that is where the magic happens.
Malik is a musical master that recognizes talent when he sees it. Subconsciously he knew that the two of them needed to work together on a project. Even though there have been some delays because of life, everyone knows there is no way to rush art. Malik has worked very closely with Ameerah to help write and produce the next smash hit.
She may not be a household name yet, but she will be. She has legions of fans from the East Coast to the West Coast of the United States and several places throughout the world; most notably, she has successfully performed in the Middle East as a female artist. When you listen to her music, you do not just hear another voice; you hear what it means to be a star. This isn’t just any star; this is Ameerah “The Star.”
