Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama Austin began his music education at a very young age. Austin was born while his father was working towards a degree in music education and began learning music theory before entering grade school. Austin began studying the piano at age six and eventually applied to a fine arts school in Birmingham that began taking students in seventh grade Austin auditioned for The Alabama School of Fine Arts while he was in the sixth grade and attended the school from seventh through the twelfth grade when he graduated in 2017. The next Fall he enrolled in music industry studies at Loyola University in New Orleans notable for alumnus G Eazy (as well as others) under the mentorship of John Snyder.
Austin was exposed to various types of music as an adolescent including classical, ethnic, pop/commercial, jazz, and contemporary music. He was exposed to graduate level music literature when he would read materials aloud as he helped his father study for the comprehensive exam to complete a masters degree in music performance. Although an accomplished classical pianist studying under Dr. Lucy DeSa, Austin began songwriting in his fathers home studio as a teenager. He also studied jazz piano in high school and performed with a jazz quintet his senior year. His songwriting skills continued to develop throughout high school as he released songs on social media and SoundCloud. He also collaborated with longtime high school friend David Bibbs (also a student at Loyola) and completed a music video for “So Lost”. The two continue to collaborate and write songs for ShoFu Records, LLC.
In the summer of 2018 Austin and his father formed ShoFu Records, LLC to record and promote his music. Austins music falls under the pop/commercial and Hip-Hop genres but his classical and jazz training has an influence in the composition of his music. Austins music draws from such influences as Justin Bieber, Frank Ocean, Rihanna, Kanye West, Snarky Puppy, Volfpeck, Corey Henry, Bebe Rexa, and Dua Lipa to name a few.
