Underground Legion First Interview
Tell us about yourself and your music
Underground Legion Is a Houston Rap group, of friends from many different backgrounds, who wanted to have fun in life and make music to be creative. Each of us relates to music in different ways and sometimes you find there isn’t music that expresses you fully, so the best way to express yourself is to create something that does.
Talk to us more about your latest release
My latest release is titled Introduction, for it is our introduction to the world of who we are, and what we are about. This song was needed if we wanted to go forward with making more music.
What inspired you to write this release?
The beat itself was the inspiration, the moment I heard the beat play the lyrics just popped in my head, I started humming the lyrics to the hook and was like that’s the song right there. I was telling my engineer Mesa that is the song was gonna make an introduction song to who we are.
Describe the writing and recording process
When it came to making the lyrics, I wanted to stay on the topic of describing how we in the group associated with each other, and how we view ourselves and what drives us. Now when I was recording the introduction the hardest part to that song was getting my opening line “Welcome to the Team” perfect.
Any plans to hit the road?
That hasn’t been decided yet with members of Underground Legion attending college we are working within tight schedules as it is. If anything it is a subject we have to visit another time.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
We brand our music to be more universal then apart of one genre, we find that as a limiter so we been mixing certain styles of Rock, Jazz, R&b to our music to stay inspired with different musical ideas, then only making rap music.
Who are your biggest influences?
Our influences come from a wide variety, Gorillaz, Dre, Aero Smith, Run DMC, etc. The list is huge for we look at each artist meaning and even the time frames they came through. Especially rappers like Run DMC for all of their music was cool music that never involved curse words but was still a hit.
Tell us about your passions
Our Passion is to make music that promotes the enjoying of life, and exposes audiences to new ideas that you don’t have to come from poverty-stricken areas in order to be successful but when you incorporate passion into anything you do you achieve success.
What else is happening next in your world?
What is happening next in our world is we are working on the building of our own studio in Houston and even creating a storefront to sell our apparel and music.
Thanks for an awesome interview, Fugi Thompson
