Yooo they call me SouthEast!! also known as SouthEast Airlines also known as Giovanni BlackTOE! I’m from Malawi, Africa also a Midwest affiliate shout out Mishawaka Indiana shout out South Bend and most definitely Chicago!! I’m attached to my music and art! It’s my life it’s my soul! I create soul music to uplift your mind body and soul! Stay high my people!

My latest single “EX Wife” is way too lit!! It’s a hype record! I debuted it at Crazy Girls and had all the strippers going crazy! It’s a new wave of Hip Hop taking place and “EX Wife” apart of it no lie!

What inspired you to write this release?

It was a late night at the studio and my producer (shout out the homie Aidan) was playing new beats he had in the stash! He played the instrumental to “EX Wife” and I immediately ran to the booth! Caught a vibe in an instant!

Describe the writing and recording process

When I first heard it I ran into the booth and started laying ideas down! And the producer had it on a loop so I freestyled and punched in verse after verse!! When I was done we went back and picked apart what became “EX Wife” the producer arranged it masterfully!

Any plans to hit the road?

Most definitely! I’m hoping to hit the road once it’s safe to do so!! Before the pandemic, we had dates lined up which is unfortunate but health is wealth (Hope everyone’s okay by the way) But as soon as they give us the go-ahead for live shows you’ll be seeing SouthEast! in a city near you!!

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

One of the things I set out to do is not sound or look like anyone else!! The visuals especially!! I study the current and past frequently and adapt quickly because the climate is so ever-changing nowadays!! I stay on top of my brand and music to keep it fresh to new and old listeners

Who have you been listening to lately?

Lately, I’ve been listening to Gunna and Lil Baby shout outs to them! Thugger too! Been listening to a lot of R&B Snoh Allegra and Solange always! And the Black Keys new album goes crazy!!

Who are your biggest influences?

My biggest influences are one Michael Jackson, James Brown, Prince, Bob Marley, John Lennon Tupac & Biggie and Kanye West

Tell us about your passions

My passions are performing, creating art on the daily! Entertaining of course I shoot a lot of videos of my day today! I just love making people happy! I know you can’t make everybody happy but I aspire to do so cause this world way too cold!

What else is happening next in your world?

Man, I’m too geeked for what’s happening next out here for a player!! The “EX Wife” video is on the way! And I got a single called “Venice” that’s gonna be an anthem guaranteed on my momma and auntie! All this is coming very soon be on the lookout!! It’s SouthEast baby!! We taking over!!
