Seasoned 2: Too Seasoned
Tell us about yourself and your music
Even though my family says I’ve got problems, they’re really just solutions! My music is essentially my development through life but over a drum pattern. I don’t trust therapists so you can catch me writing about almost anything in my life I deal with…. if it’s legal.
Talk to us more about your latest release
My new project “Seasoned 2” starts where “Seasoned” left off. I find myself in the sunken place and it’s time to climb out: less gullible, more seasoned. All proceeds from this project will go to the American Foundation for Suicide prevention. This is my 4th project and it drops October 16th.
What inspired you to write this release?
Honestly, both Seasoned projects are about my love life. I understand how impactful relationships can be on one’s psyche. Depending on how much one is invested in a relationship, the outcome of a breakup can be devastating on the mind, body, or spirit. This is the second installment in my “how not to lose your mind over a significant other, but if you do, the best way to remain functional ”. Catchy title, right?
Describe the writing and recording process
I wrote and recorded all the lyrics for this project between October 2019 and February 2020. All the beats are free beats from various producers. The whole project was engineered by my bro @Parkeway at GhettoBuddha Studios.
Any plans to release a video?
Any plans to hit the road?
Nope, it’s Corona Season(ed).
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
I do my best to write songs that I don’t hear anybody making. If I write something that I know is healing for myself, I know those in similar situations could benefit as well. Also, find some REAL promotion. The games changed since the days of having a word of mouth promoter pushing a new project. Everything’s online. At all costs, avoid bots and find legitimate companies to get your music in front of those who’ll appreciate what you do.
Who have you been listening to lately?
My top 5 in no order
Kendrick Lamar, Kevin Gates, Future, Freddie Gibbs, and Lil Wayne
Who are your biggest influences?
My top 10 in no order
Kendrick Lamar, Kevin Gates, Future, Freddie Gibbs, Lil Wayne, MF Doom, Mac Miller, Earl Sweatshirt, Flatbush Zombies, and Childish Gambino
I actually grew up going to the studio so a lot of the older artists that came in and out of there had a big impact on my sound from childhood.
Tell us about your passions
Paper is a passion. Pus… pushing the envelope is another passion of mine lol. My two favorite things are information and progress. If I’m not learning something I need to be finishing something. #antistagnant
What else is happening next in your world?
I’m consulting for artists who want to come up in the music game who don’t know where to start. I’ve also been working on projects with my family label “G55eight”. My wisdom teeth are almost in.
Thanks for an awesome interview, J-Free
