My Interview

My Interview

Tell us about yourself and your music

Growing up I have always had a love for music. Being from NY we had a lot of access to different music genres. I have always been into the dance, dance-pop, EDM genre of music. As a kid growing up I used to pretend I was on the radio mixing songs together like a DJ. Sadly my music interest was placed on hold while I focused on my career in aviation. After that, I remember what was missing in my life. Being a flight attendant allowed me to research, get ideas, write music and melodies. Finally, I get the opportunity to publish music and it truly has to be the happiest I have ever imagined I could be. I hope it is a lasting career and that you enjoy the music I create just as much as I do. My songs are a reflection of me and what has happened in my life and what I hope does in the future. My lyrics are from my past, present, and future. Being apart of the LGBT community it was hard growing up feeling like you don’t belong or you’re different. Feeling like who are, and what you want out of life is wrong. The music I create is to help everyone be true to who they are and know that you are loved and should always be yourself. Be the best version of it. You should never feel like you need to impress in order to be happy. We need to be happy with the person we are, and the music I create is in hopes that we one day truly believe this. For just the duration of my songs, I hope that we can let go and be in the moment. Smile, Laugh, Be happy, and BE YOU. I hope you all enjoy it!

Talk to us more about your latest release

Each of my singles is created for different reasons. Feel good was created to help everyone know that they are needed and that no one is more important or less important than anyone else. We are all equal. If you look at the singles album cover it is red and blue smoke that’s coming off of my body. This is supposed to symbolize good and evil being released. The main reason it is both good and evil is that we need to let go of everything inside good and bad and just be in the here and now. Just enjoy the moment on the same level and page as everyone else. It’s important in life to make sure no aspect overpowers the other and to have that balance in life. Too many people these days think they are above everyone and I created this single to make sure we can all come together s one.

What inspired you to write this release?

Too many people these days think they are better than everyone and I created this single to make sure we can all come together. Part of my inspiration was when I was in cities where the rioting and protesting took place. It pained me to see so many people in pain and there was nothing I could do, so I turned to music. It was important to me to write a song where we are able to release everything and come together where everyone is equal and everyone can just let go, let the music in, and feel like nothing else matters in that moment but the sense of being together and feeling good. It is time to let go even for just the duration of my song and just let the music in and come together.

Describe the writing and recording process

Being a flight attendant, it brings me to many cities and I get to see the world for these different locations. All this inspiration makes it easy for me to begin creating and begin to write or produce while I’m there because, especially in today’s world, things are very different all over. My inspiration from my newest single is from again the sense of everyone coming together and just being yourself. After I get the idea of my song I begin figuring out the melodies and how to bring it together and then I begin creating. After the melodies are put together I start writing the lyrics if the song requires them

Any plans to release a video?

Any plans to hit the road?

I was planning on publishing my music and possibly performing in some local places before COVID hit. Living in South Florida, EDM, and dance-pop music are very popular so I feel like I would fit in genre-wise very easily. As the world needs to adapt, we all do as well living in it. I’m now trying to get ideas on how to move forward over just creating music. Possibly doing some live streams or maybe even areas more open to doing performances in parks that will allow it under the social distancing rules. I’m currently working on a music video for “Dance Together” and “Be You” to keep my listeners engaged before I can figure out how to to do more of “live” interaction. I will have all my announcements and events posted to my website nickcalarco.com when I can figure it all out.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

I am actually an EDM, Dance, Dance-pop artist. But my music stands out more than the other artist out there because each song is created as a reflection on me the type of person I am, and what I have experiences of want to in the future. I don’t want to have a song that has an empty meaning, or create a song just because I need a filler. I feel that creating music that comes from the heart and soul helps create a bond with my fans and helps them relate.

Who have you been listening to lately?

My favorite artist is Lady Gaga, Kylie Minougue, Zedd, Calvin Harris, Kygo, Steve Aoki, Kaskade, and so many more.

Who are your biggest influences?

My personal life heroes have always been my parents and my grandparents. They are the strongest people I know and without them and their true support I would have never made it even close to where I am now.

My musical inspirations have always been Lady Gaga and Kylie Minogue. Their songs have always made me feel loved and included, where I can just be myself and know that there’s no reason I have to change. I’m loved for being me and that’s exactly how it should be. Not because of race, color, sexual preference, none of it, I am who I am and that is enough. I want my music to help bring those eases, and troubles out of everyone’s life as much as they did for me. All of this is also inspiring me to create an organization to help people get through their life’s troubles. I want to try and created one that donates money and time in helping people be themselves and get through their times in need. Celebrate their times in joy and happiness. I’ve always been about giving back, and if I’m successful in my music career my goal will always be just that, never less, and always more. People need to be celebrated in their good and bad times because helping someone whose really down brings them to the point of being able to celebrate them when you pick them up.

Tell us about your passions

My passions have always been flying, music, and helping people. Always loved flying and airplanes and becoming a pilot and flight attendant has helped me stay in that industry. I was always the one who stopped and stared at the planes flying over, still do. Music was always my outlet, the only true aspect where I felt like I truly belonged. Felt included in the songs of my favorite artist which is the main reason I become an artist. I have always wanted to give back to everyone I possibly can. I have always lived by the golden rule as well as paying it forward. It is important to me to help bring people up because you never truly know what is going on in their day and life and even a simple smile can help wonders on someone.

What else is happening next in your world?

I was planning on publishing my music and possibly performing in some local places. Now I am just trying to adapt to the sad reality of the new normal. I’m now trying to get ideas on how to move forward over just creating music. Possibly doing some live streams or maybe even areas more open to doing performances in parks that will allow it under the social distancing rules. I have recently submitted my album “My Strength” which consists of 15 songs and I am so excited to get it out there. I will have all my announcements and events posted to my website nickcalarco.com when I can figure it all out
