Tell us about yourself and your music
My real name is James Horne but I go by Black Kaspa. It’s really not that much behind the name I just was so used to ppl saying they couldn’t see me in the dark when I was younger like a ghost so I took it and ran with it. My music is versatile, but the most I love about my music is that it’s very relatable. I speak about what’s going on in life, through good and bad, the ups and downs. I don’t like to limit myself to one particular sound or style, I love going outside the box.
Talk to us more about your latest release
My latest release (Single) is called “Relief” it was released on Sept. 10th & it’s just me going thru my life as of right now. It was produced by CorMill & the Single is picking up pretty fast, I’m excited about how it’s turning out
What inspired you to write this release?
Arguing back and forth with my kid’s mother is how the song came about, she would always tell me my kids didn’t need me & I ain’t this and that. Just secluded me and started thinking.
Describe the writing and recording process
The process of it all was just a feeling. Walking into the booth, with thoughts in my head like “I’m bouta just give them the real” this is one that was more of a thought process than a writing one but it turned out exactly how I wanted it to.
Any plans to release a video?
Any plans to hit the road?
No plans on hitting the road as of now but I’m definitely looking forward to it soon. With COVID hitting the way it did, it kinda slowed the concerts up but stay tuned because I’m only going up pushing forward!
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
I talk about how I lived and what I been thru, they speak on their behalf. I don’t wanna look at u and create your life or speak about what I have seen from u. I want to brand me, give them the real me. I can’t speak on the rest personally but I know I have seen some weird situations since I been in the music world lol 🤣🤣🤣
Who have you been listening to lately?
Meek Mill that’s my dawg man, Lil Baby, Mozzy, MoneyBagg 🤷🏿♂️ I can’t say all because I listen to a bunch. I listen to a lot of locals, Shellz Amazin’, Tinkk Jayy, ValDaKidd, Litty, Tae7Mile, Tee Hymes, Tino Bandz I could go on frl as far as locals lol
Who are your biggest influences?
Jay-Z is my biggest ever, my dawg Kobe (RIP) I been a Laker all my life so watching the dedication and documentaries from him was beyond crazy & my parents frl
Tell us about your passions
My Kids is my number 1 passion over everything in this cold world, then my music comes second. Those are the 2 things that take me away from any type of situation I’m going through at the moment
What else is happening next in your world?
My actual project drops October 23rd It’s called “No Timeframe” & I’m geeked about it. I wanna see the criticism and backlash that comes with it. I love for ppl to tell me where I went wrong and what they like from me so I’ll know how or which way to turn my growth towards.
Thanks for an awesome interview, Black Kaspa
