Tell us about yourself and your music
My names is Jimmy Donn. I am an artist, producer, illustrator, director, videographer, video editor, photographer, graphic designer, studio engineer and all around visionary.
Talk to us more about your latest release
I release new music on a bi-monthly basis. My latest release as of January 3rd, 2020 is an 8 song album called “A Place So Dark”. It’s part of and the third album released from a series that started with the 40 song double disc album “Winter”. The second one being “The Beauty of Decay” released in late October 2019.
What inspired you to write this release?
I’ve been battling mental illness since I was 4 or 5 years old. I wanted to bring awareness to mental illness and help end the stigma on it. That started with the “Winter” album.
Describe the writing and recording process
I use to find a beat that speaks to me. Then I listen to it until I feel the lyrics and cadence of it. Usually when I’m driving. Now I make my own beats/music and I write as the music is being made.
Any plans to release a video?
Any plans to hit the road?
I have a very unique tour planned for the U.S. in the Fall of 2020.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
Consistent communication with my supporters and constant content.
Who have you been listening to lately?
I listen to everything new. I give every new album from all genres a chance. Good music is good music regardless of genre. I’m on Apple Music as soon as midnight hits Friday morning discovering new music.
Who are your biggest influences?
My biggest influences are my peers. I have certain artists that I work with that really inspire me to be more creative and think outside the box when it comes to music, merchandise and more.
Tell us about your passions
My one true passion is entertainment. Be it music, art, movies, videos and so on. My entire house is very unconventional. Every wall is covered in music memorabilia. My kitchen is full operational recording studio and I have an obsession with speakers and headphones. So music is at the top of the entertainment passion.
What else is happening next in your world?
I’m in the making of the most unique album, delivery process and tour. No one has done what I am currently doing. I think it’s time that music and the way we experience it evolves like it did with the introductions to MP3’s. I’m creating the next big change in the music industry.
