Tell us about yourself and your music
My name is Chuck Anderson. I’m a jazz guitarist, composer, and educator. I have been in the music business my entire life, never having worked in any other field. Through the years, my work has consisted of concerts, masterclasses, lectures, private teaching, owning, and operating a music school, an original music production company, and a music publishing company.
I have written 25 books and recorded12 albums. I am currently focused on online education for the jazz guitar as well as writing and recording.
Talk to us more about your latest release
Dominos is The Chuck Anderson Trio’s 5th release. It features 12 new original songs written for the Trio. The players are Chuck Anderson on guitar, Eric Schreiber on bass, and Ed Rick on drums.
The music represents a wide variety of jazz-oriented styles including swing, blues, jazz waltz, bossa, samba, and even a rollicking funk tune.
What inspired you to write this release?
With our live concerts shut down because of the virus, it was important to create media exposure for the new album. This seems an excellent way to announce the album to the world.
Describe the writing and recording process
As a long time writer, my process is fairly straight forward. I begin with a need to compose such as for a new album or an upcoming concert. I often choose titles from an internal visual image. I then write to fulfill that image or feeling. I make sure that the compositions are balanced in key, tempos, and feel.
The recording process simulates a live performance but takes place in a studio.
Any plans to hit the road?
No plans with so many venues shut down from the virus.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
“Audience friendly jazz guitar” My group is an instrumental jazz trio featuring Chuck Anderson on guitar, Eric Schreiber on bass, and Ed Rick on drums. In the recording, we focus on original material with an emphasis on improvisation. There is a great balance in the material chosen. It spans blues, swing, jazz waltz, bossa, samba, ballad, etc.
Our music has a wide demographic because of the popularity of the guitar itself. Cross over fans is worldwide.
Who have you been listening to lately?
I do not listen to any artists with regularity.
Who are your biggest influences?
My first influences were jazz guitarists Wes Montgomery and Johhny Smith.
Tell us about your passions
The creation and sharing of music is my passion. This sharing happens through private teaching, master classes, performances, and recording.
What else is happening next in your world?
The promotion and distribution of my books and albums especially the newest CD “Dominos”. We look forward to living concerts when things get back to normal. In the meantime, we are planning to stream concerts worldwide.
