Tell us about yourself and your music
I started being a fan of electronic music at around 19 – 20 years old. Fell in love with love and these were the first times I ever went to a show, concert, music festival, etc. At 21 I decided that I really wanted to learn how to make music, this was the year 2014. My first official release ever was in 2016 with a song called ‘Pilot.’ At 21, I was really into house music, then trance and then started leaning towards more of a chill genre like future bass (Illenium, Flume, Chainsmokers, etc.) so I decided I wanted to learn how to make future bass music.
Talk to us more about your latest release
My latest original release was actually a collaboration with a friend of mine who goes by “Middle Child” and ended up featuring a violinist from Indonesia by the name of “Belski” but ended up changing her alias to “Virtualyx.” This one is definitely one of my more melodic projects and knowing Middle Child’s work, I knew it was going to be a perfect fit for him. And fortunately, this song is my most heard song of any of my other tracks!
What inspired you to write this release?
Melodic music has always been one of my favorite kinds of music to write. First thing I wanted to do was make a chord progression then vocal chops that can go with the progression. Once those 2 were figured out, it just motivated me to think to myself, I can hear 3 or 4 different versions of songs with this. And funny enough, I actually had 3 different styles of this song, different bpm, arrangement, etc. Once I had this final arrangement, I knew there was no way I can change it up again.
Describe the writing and recording process
I had the vocal chops patterned out already, as well as a chord progression, ended up looking for the best sounds for this project for the verse and the drop, and when I ended up with a solid 60% of an outline, I sent the rest to Middle Child and I sent my 60% to Virtualyx and they both went with their creativity! Once I heard the pre mix full outline, I was super happy with the process and only eager to hear the fully mixed & mastered version.
Any plans to release a video?
Any plans to hit the road?
Not as of yet, definitely still have a long way to go for me to achieve any kind of recognition.
Would love to do this in my future though!
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
Well I like to have my own style on things, signature sounds, I stick with an aesthetic on my artworks and my Soundcloud page. I take inspiration/motives from other artists to make my own original piece.
Who have you been listening to lately?
Lately I have been listening to Just A Gent, Illenium, Nurko, K?D, Petit Biscuit and so much more but this is only the electronic side of things, hip hop wise I like to listen to Brockhampton, Drake, Anderson .Paak, Benny The Butcher, and others. And even with alternative/rock music I always go with the classics like Switchfoot, My Chemical Romance, Rex Orange County, Seafret, System of a Down. I could keep naming bands/artists but the list would be endless.
Who are your biggest influences?
Illenium, K?D, Porter Robinson.
Tell us about your passions
I love listening to music, working on music, watching soccer, playing soccer, watching different anime’s and other shows and movies too (sitcoms, medieval times, war movies, comedies, etc).
What else is happening next in your world?
Have yet to make money off my music so still working a bunch, got 2 different jobs, so I don’t have much time as I would like to when it comes to working on music. But of course, that’s not going to stop me. Gotta keep going.
