Inside the Mind of Jarl Far

Inside the Mind of Jarl Far

Tell us about yourself and your music

Well for starters, I was born & raised on the west side of Montgomery, Alabama. Pretty much my entire life I never knew exactly what I wanted to pursue a career. At one point, I wanted to be a lawyer after seeing friends & family getting locked up. The next, I wanted to be a Chef so I could open restaurants in my neighborhood. Other times, I was just lost & did not have any type of direction. It was not until I was introduced to a broad scale of music in the summer of 2008. I was fourteen years old, did not know anything about music, & a friend of mine put over 3000 songs on my hard drive. I swear I listened to every song that summer & my whole view of life had completely change. From there, I started writing rap verses in school so when I came home, I could go on YouTube to find the perfect beat. Eventually, these verses turned into songs, songs formed ideas for my first project, & that is how my career began. Sort of like a melting pot effect haha.

Talk to us more about your latest release

My latest release is titled “Million in the Bank” produced by my good friend Jeremiah Hill aka Jay Way. It’s one of those bangers that reels you in by hearing the beat. On the first listen, you might miss some of the messages I leave throughout because of how amazing my flow meshes with the beat. I like this record because it’s not about having a Million in the Bank it’s about working towards a Million in the Bank & building from there.

What inspired you to write this release?

To be honest, the beat inspired me to write this track. As soon as I heard it I caught a rhythm instantly. Listening to the beat, it gave me so many ideas, but I wanted to write a certain song that can catch ears quick. After releasing the song to the public, I can tell that it caught ears quicker than expected but I hope to have even more listeners soon.

Describe the writing and recording process

Both processes were easy. It was almost like I wrote the whole song in my head during my jam session with the beat. It took me about 15 minutes to write the song, about thirty minutes to record, & another 30 for mixing & mastering. Special shoutout to one of my favorite engineers, Justin Mantooth, at Westend Recording Studios in Kansas City, MO. He is the main part of the reason the track sounds so amazing. We were locked in, trying to find dope ways to give the song more life & he worked his magic. Salute to you, Justin!

Any plans to release a video?

Any plans to hit the road?

– I had some shows lined up but due to COVID-19, I had to reschedule until next year. For the time being, I will be working on dropping more singles throughout 2020 leading into an album for 2021 release. I will be performing in Miami for the Coast 2 Coast World Championships (Qualifying Round) in January 2021!

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

I try to make music that people can enjoy & have fun too. I feel music brings us together & it’s a haven for most of us. With that being said, I want all my listeners to hear my music the way I listen to my favorite artists; by enjoying the vibes & sounds I am capable of creating. When it comes to branding, it’s still a working progress. I try to use trolling & cracking jokes on Social media to bring traffic towards my pages. It works for the most part cause most people to see my JDF Logo (which stands for Jarl Deejus Far) & ask me about my work. I always love keeping people entertained.

Who have you been listening to lately?

I have been listening to a little bit of everything rap wise! Travis Scott, Kid Cudi, Drake, Big Krit, Nipsey Hussle, Mac Miller, you name it! I try to find the best out of music, I try to see the best of everything that reaches my ears. When it comes to music outside of rap, I listen to a lot of Janelle Monae, Nicole Bus, SZA, Ari Lennox, Baby Rose, Billie Eilish, H.E.R., etc. It’s a lot of great music out here to enjoy, my goal is to be a part of the wave!

Who are your biggest influences?

I am inspired by the likes of Jay Z, Tupac, Eminem, Biggie, Lil Wayne, etc. I worked hard to discover my unique style. Listening to these artists gave me the knowledge I needed to master my writing process. Without hearing their words, I don’t know where I would be.

Tell us about your passions

Man, I’m a still kid at heart to be completely honest. I play my PS4 (Follow me on Twitch: Jarl_far), read comic books, watch anime, watch UFC, etc. I’m big on keeping myself occupied. Without any of these things, I would be bored out of my mind lol.

What else is happening next in your world?

Work, Work, & Work! I must keep pushing my music & perfecting my craft. I believe consistency is the key component to being successful. I try to drop one project a year to keep my day one fan interested & also gain new ones. I also want to find a way to connect better with my Fans. Showing them that I care about their feedback & support, lets them know I am serious about my work. I want to be the next big thing to pop up on the map!
