Hello – Producer Tae

Small-Tae

Tell us about yourself and your music

I’m from Little Rock, Arkansas. Most natives call it Lil’ Rock or the Rock. I call it “LIT ROCK”. The state talent shows and performing at some major venues earlier in life, kind of paved the way. My music is all me, simply put. I write and produce my material and have done so for years. From what I’m told by others, I have my sound and I own it. Therefore, I cannot be compared to others. I can’t pinpoint what makes me unique and it’s probably best that I don’t. I may tweak something that doesn’t need tweaking. I am a perfectionist! Lol! My music has that groove, that catchiness, that “hold up, let it play”. Now, more women seem to gravitate towards my music. I think it’s because I don’t hold back and I say whatever I FEEL. I write from the heart and past experiences.

Talk to us more about your latest release

My latest release is a song titled “Boss”. I came up with the track, having Dallas, Memphis and Lit Rock in mind. The song provides good energy through its entirety. The song was recorded at HMG Studios in North Hollywood, California. It was mixed by Grammy winner Larry Whit and Mastered by Dave Force. Project Pat is also featured on the “Boss” Remix. Another release titled “Small Town Hero” was also recorded at the same time.

What inspired you to write this release?

For “Boss”, I wanted something catchy, something that feels good, but fun. I was in my studio loading up the sound pads of the MPC and playing some old school tunes on my turntables. An idea came to me and BAM! I was digging on the bounce of the track more than anything.

Describe the writing and recording process

Well, my writing and recording process is kind of tricky. It depends on how long I’ve spent building or creating stems for that particular track.  I waited until I awaken the next morning to write the lyrics for “Boss”. I used my home studio to record a draft so I can check the delivery tone and get a feel for the overall song. Recording at HMG Studios with Larry, aka Half-Whitt or the”Guru Engineer” as I call him, is like working with a close friend or brother. No stopping until it’s right, even if it takes all night. It’s great when you love what you do.

Any plans to hit the road?

I do plan on hitting the road sometime soon.  To better prepare myself, I am currently working on lots of new material.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

My company, Rattrax Productions, LLC is 100% owned by me. I am so old school with the hustle game. Branding nowadays requires lots of social platform interactions and expensive marketing. I use the term “Overlooked” as a phrase and a slogan for Producer Tae. We have T-shirts, and hoodies with #Overlooked and ProducerTae.com on them. Paying attention to feedback is key. Staying true to myself while being competitive in a genre filled with Starving artists is a bit of a struggle at times.

Who have you been listening to lately?

I listen to whoever or whatever on the Billboards Hot 100 playlists. The way I see it, those artists are on there for a reason. So, I listen to everything from Soft Rock to Rap. I use it as a study guide. To name a few: Drake, Ed Sheeran, Chris Brown, Juvenile, and Billie Eilish.

Who are your biggest influences?

This could take forever! I love music! To keep it simple I will reply based on my genre.  I will say Jay Z, Dr. Dre, Dj Quik, Busta Bust, Biggie Smalls, Timberland, and R. Kelly. Yeah, I said R. Kelly… the brother was a Hit Maker!

Tell us about your passions

Music is my passion but I have passion and love for my immediate family. My daughters, my mom, my sister, they motivate the hell out of me without saying a word. I want to give them the world. I was blessed with a gift that will help me bless others. I am extremely passionate about my music but I’m equally passionate about being a provider.

What else is happening next in your world?

We are planning to shoot my first two music videos within the next month. Also, I’ll be walking across a different stage setting in December for my Bachelors of Criminal Justice. Possibly with Honors! Held over a 3.5 GPA the entire time. With performing, producing and recording, regardless, I’m law school bound.

Thanks for an awesome interview, Producer Tae
