Getting to know the new face of R&B Youngsmoove
Tell us about yourself and your music
Well a little about myself well I’m from a small town in Mississippi call Yazoo City. I’m the youngest out of three sibling.
I’ve been doing music since I was kid I would say I started out singing when I was just about 11 years old, Cause like this how it started I had went to purchase my first CD which was TLC “FanMail” album. so one day I was at home standing in the bathroom listening to the album. So I’m like let me sing this song and I can’t remember which song it was. So I started singing, and I’m looking hmm I sound pretty good and from that day forward I took off. Every day after school I’ll drop my book and get right to singing and I just knew that was what I wanted to do with my life was to be r&b singer. But to fast forward a little my brother and I started a group back in high school it was me my bother and it was one of our friends in school so we tried the group thing. And like B2K was the thing around this time they was just coming out so we wanted to be the next big super group. And so we wanted stage name this where my name Youngsmoove came from my brother was the one that gave me the name. Cause I use to say I was smooth with the ladies and all that. So he said let’s name you Youngsmoove and that’s been my name ever since and so the group didn’t work I went down my own path and here I am today.
And so I started working on my music as a solo artist. I saw I had more creative control over my music and how I wanna sound and all. but my inspiration with music come from artist such as Tyrese, Joe, Tank, Chris Brown, Usher, Omarion, Maxwell, just to name a few. Cause my music is sexy it’s relaxing and and fun. I’ve been told my music has a 90’s feel to it as well. I just wanna make music that my fans will enjoy.
Talk to us more about your latest release
Well as a lot of my fans know my latest release is my song “Ride” which is very popular right now. I’ve really been pushing this single as hard as I can and just really trying get it out there. But it’s a very sexy song and it’s something that you and your significant other can enjoy or just somebody you just had your eye on and you get that opportunity . It’s just one of those baby making type track.
What inspired you to write this release?
What inspired me to write this release was that I wanted to write about something that I experienced. I mean the song speaks for it self, about what inspired me to write the song.
Describe the writing and recording process
The writing process can be fun, like most of my songs that I write come from things that I’ve been through in my life or things I’ve seen other people go through. So once I channel in those emotions the words just come naturally. And some beats like bring out those different emotions. And so when I’m listening to beats. I have to feel the music and see myself on stage doing that song. I know that may sound wired but It just makes it easy for me. But the recording process I enjoy it. It’s just that you know what you want and how you want it. So you just go in there and do your thing but there have been songs I’ve recorded and when I got in the studio I’m like well maybe this track not going to work so I but it to the side. That’s why my album haven’t came out yet like I want it to be perfect. It all takes time if you want it to be right, perfection isn’t rushed. Sometime it takes doing it over and over again till it’s right. Cause you wanna give the fans something that will enjoy. But my album is coming very soon so be on the look out for it.
Any plans to hit the road?
I do have plans to hit the road soon to do some heavy promotion. Cause it’s nothing like being on stage and seeing all those beautiful faces. Cause you can do all the promotion over on social media. But the fans interaction is where it’s at, that face to face reaching out touching there hands. Hearing the screams it’s nothing like it. The energy and just hearing them have conversation about you just give you a rush. But the traveling is fun cause you get to meet your fans and see these different faces. it’s just awesome and can’t wait.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
Well I pretty much just get on any and everything that I can, to get my brand out there. If that’s finding legit websites to promote my music on I’ll do that. Just getting out there on the streets and getting to know my fans is important. That’s just like I can be standing outside and just see a group of people coming by. I’m going stop and give them a CD I have post CD’s on car doors and all handing out some at the gym really pretty much anything you can think of. I’m hungry and I want any exposure I can get. But how I feel I stand out from other indie artist out there now, is just being me being Youngsmoove. Cause there isn’t anyone out there doing what the next indie artist is doing cause we are trying to find our way and ways to stand out from what’s already out there. We as indie artist wanna be like a breath of fresh air and bring something new and fresh to your ears. So when you hear a indie artist and you be like man this artist sound great and they have a unique sound that’s not even out there. But you have to take risk and step out of your comfort zone cause if you stay in your confront zone how can you move and be different. You have to step out the box and out your comfort zone and that’s me I wanna give you something that’s not out there I don’t wanna follow the crowd I wanna give you me and my unique sound.
Who have you been listening to lately?
Few artist that I’m listening to right now Ella Mai I love me some Ella Mai I think she makes great music. And would love to work with her one day I love her style and just everything about her voice and all. But some other artist that I’m listening to right now is J.French he’s family and he’s a new artist hitting the rap game right now and just out there putting in work he’s been getting a lot of recognition from major hitters in the industry right now so had give my family a shutout. But some other artist I’m listening to right now Tyrese, Usher, Omarion, Chris Brown, Maxwell, Joe, Ludacris just name a few .
Who are your biggest influences?
Well it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t start my list of influences with Michael Jackson being on top of the list. Cause everybody grew up watching MJ. Cause there wouldn’t be no Chris Brown, Omarion or Usher without Micheal Jackson. But another artist that influence me is Justin Timberlake I was a huge Nsync fan, growing up and Like when Justin went and did his solo thing he went hard. But Omarion and Usher. Just name few of my Influences. Cause all these artist are amazing performers. I mean there are so many artist that influenced me but these are my top guys right here.
Tell us about your passions
Well my number one passion is my music I love the way music make you feel and how it helps you to get through things. And you can express your self any way you want. But another passion of mines is dancing I love to dance like I can’t have a show without putting dancing in my performance . Like I remember some years back when Nysnc had an HBO special I had recorded the whole concert on a VHS tape. And I would watch it every single day over and over in till I got the dance steps down. And When I would go watch the video a few days later. I was hitting the moves just like they did it and I did same with Omarion performance at one of the BET Awards. I recorded his performance. And watch it over till got the moves down pack. But you will never so me do a show without adding some fly dance moves to my performance. But another passion that I have that really nobody know about is that I love acting and one day I wanna get into acting. And do some major movies on the big screen I think that would be really cool do.
What else is happening next in your world?
Well just getting to the next level in my career. And getting this album done so I can bring my fans more new fresh music to groove to. But I plan on doing a lot more shows this up coming new year, and possibly touring as well.
