Tell us about yourself and your music
My name is ExCellent Jabrell. I’m a young hip-hop artist from the midwest. Located in college town Bloomington, Indiana. I’m very inspired by dirty south rap music and west coast rhythm as well as alternative rock and soul. 20 years young, ambitious, and versatile is a good way to describe me. Music is my one and only passion. I’m always trying to create something new and different.

My latest release “Mama” was something like a new take on Tupac’s “Dear Mama”
My mother who is my rock wanted a song that was just for her so I made it for her.

What inspired you to write this release?
My mom’s birthday was coming up and I’d been trying to write her a song for the longest. And it was the day before and I had actually heard this bear a few days before but I had just got off the phone with her talking about some drama and I basically was telling her not to worry about and the beat came on again right after. And I just started hearing “Tell my mama I just caught a body cause a n***a tried me” and I watch a couple of old Pac interview and after that, it was a wrap. I was fully motivated to make this song.
Describe the writing and recording process
I like to be in a dark room with colorful lights. I always light an intent to set a good vibe and I usually just smoke and recite my lyrics over the beat until I’m comfortable with the flow and I lay everything down.
Any plans to release a video?
Any plans to hit the road?
I was offered a small gig over in Europe in the fall. I play a lot of shows in my area from time to time. As of lately though I’ve been way more in the creative process.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
Just by living life. I like to be very vocal and open towards anything I’m passionate about. Do a lot of charity and work for the little guy. I’m all about saying the thoughts everyone else is scared to say and taking action I feel like that usually separates me from the rest. I’m very much my own artist and all about what I’m about. I’m not concerned about being anything other than myself.
Who have you been listening to lately?
My playlist lately has been a lot of Nipsey Hussle, and Lil Durk. My favorite rappers of all time though are Andre 3000, Eminem, and Childish Gambino. Also a huge Bring Me the Horizon fan and Rage Against the Machine.
Who are your biggest influences?
Andre 3000, Malcolm X, JFK, Lil Wayne, and Jimi Hendrix.

- Music is my main passion.
- I’m also a fan of film and directing I’ve always been interested in that form of entertainment.
- I love animals.
What else is happening next in your world?
Right now my plan is to drop more music and videos and get my name known more.
