Artist Interview: TheKunig
Tell us about yourself and your music
Having spent years in bands ,mostly in Germany with some measures of success – I discovered Electronic Music and when I came back to the UK proceeded to lock myself in the house and compose a few tunes ! – I sent them to BBC introducing who played one and gave a good review which boosted my confidence greatly.
I have now been experimenting with sound bites , loops , samples and vocal stems for around 3 years – I have released 4 albums to date and just finished a bit of a compilation CD called The Urban album.
Talk to us more about your latest release
The Urban Album features 10 tracks and are a mix of pop and hip-hop – these are tracks from the last 3 years which I have re-produced and re-mixed.
What inspired you to write this release?
The inspiration for Stranger Than Fiction came from the disatisfaction of main stream music these days and is eally about a love affair with independant music – plus questioning my “talent” as a producer etc .
Any plans to release a video?
My vieo channel on Youtube is – https://www.youtube.com/user/TheKunig
and Stranger Than Fiction was produced by Arton Studios in India the link is below
Any plans to hit the road?
At present I have no plans to hit the road but by next year hope to get a band together to perform my music live.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
Definitely a rarity in today’s musical landscape combing jazz, synth sounds, samples, and vocals into very unique compositions.
” TheKunig is part of a dying breed who defies the odds of getting better as he produces more music. He has few equals in the genre, as there are only a handful of producers daring enough to produce beats locked into this style” – Vintage Media Group
Who have you been listening to lately?
3&o , Prince , The Mummers , Kate Bush , Underworld , Radiohead
Tell us about your passions
Oooh thats a tough question as its mostly music – although a great sunny day gets me up early
What else is happening next in your world?
Try to spend the next few months thinking about how I can reproduce my music live.
Thanks for an awesome interview, Micky!
