Tell us about yourself and your music
I’ve been playing around with recordings and reciting the lyrics of big names since my earliest years. The earliest of my own raps I can still remember (but not really) was at fourteen. I recorded my first song the next fall after discovering studio software online. My first mixtape was only heard by five people. I spent my teenage years recording myself And learning to engineer through trial by fire. I got my first award nomination in 2012 for my Good Intentions mixtape. After so many mixtapes and increasing my production works, I released my first album, Decoy, in 2013 and followed up with GRINDED IN 2015.
Talk to us more about your latest release
‘These Ain’t Weed Raps.’ is out now. It was released on Christmas Eve, 2016. Fourteen tracks with another four featured. And I produced those original fourteen.
What inspired you to write this release?
Lol, the misconception of my name. I’m not a weed rapper, contrary to popular perception.
Any plans to release a video?
As far as a traditional music video, things are being planned. So far, it’s all promo material using studio and performance footage.
Any plans to hit the road?
Other than my ArtWalk cipher appearances, there are no current bookings. But that can change with the right inquiry.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
I began taking part in Artwalk, a performance cipher and showcase platform developed by the homie, Fat Bastard J. It takes place every second Friday of every other month. So far I’ve done three. I’ve started building connections through my appearances along with becoming a regular. And I’ve been making an effort to extend my production works outside of my own universe into others. I really like seeing the results of getting together with other artists.
Who have you been listening to lately?
Thurgood Holmes. Dude is hard.
Tell us about your passions
What else is happening next in your world?
There are a couple of new projects on the way. I won’t say names but two are already planned out.
Thanks for an awesome interview, Torion!
