Artist Interview: Soda
Tell us about yourself and your music
Geez, what a question! Well, I’ve always been drawn to music and art and most things eccentric and experimental. The world of music seemed like the right place for me to hang my hat and branch out from there like I have done. I’ve had a lot of great adventures and experiences because of the path I have walked, it’s really enriched my life. As far as my Music goes…It’s all heart. Now, I know a lot of people will say that BUT, do they really mean it? When I create music I approach it from a very artistic perspective and I really want it to be a place for people to be able to relate to. That too is why lots of my lyrical content can be somewhat ambiguous.
Talk to us more about your latest release
Now, this is an exciting question. This year I will be releasing a new solo record. I am very excited about it. I can’t say too much right now BUT, I can tell you I just sent the tracks out for mastering and this could very well be one of the most important statements I have ever made in the form of sound. And for me, that says a lot as I’ve been creating and releasing music for a very long time since a young age.
What inspired you to write this release?
Lots of different things actually. I had just come out of a band for two and a half years…just bought a house…some cool personal goals had been reached. I only worked on this recording when I was absolutely 100% invested in the ideas behind it. It took me a little over a year to create it. And, I actually used my new home as a bit of an instrument on the recording. You’ll see…or hear rather!
Any plans to release a video?
For this new release? Not sure yet. Interesting thing about me is that as far as video goes that’s what I have the least of out there. I feel like that kinda adds a bit of a mystique which I like.
Any plans to hit the road?
Actually, No. Last big Tour I did was 2 years ago. I will be having some really clever and unique listening parties for this thing though.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
I don’t limit myself to anything. My “brand” is anything and everything I do. I might look a certain way today and it’ll be different tomorrow. I may scream on a record in a week then write you a pop jingle 2 days later. You “get it” or you don’t I guess. Sometimes it’s like a cool little club.
Who have you been listening to lately?
Lately? I’ll stick to just that. I really like the new American Football record. Some obscure Smashing Pumpkins. Prince…
Tell us about your passions
Writing, being a DIY artist. I’m motivated, I set goals. I try to accomplish or learn something every day. I’m extremely open-minded and again, a big DIY person and am proud of that.
What else is happening next in your world?
I’m trying to accomplish more big personal goals. I’ve also just been asked to submit music for a talk show out in Connecticut and also an indie film in Los Angeles. My wheels are always spinning.
