Tell us about yourself and your music
Snaga Pauls initially trained as a Music Teacher. He graduated from Evelyn Hone College in Lusaka in 2009. My music career started in 2005. I had a couple of recordings working with producers like Joe Chibangu, Danny the snipper, among others. Upon going to Evelyn Hone in 2007, I teamed up with Romano Mpundu Turibious (RT) and worked with producer Mumbi (MJ) at CYPRO Records. I pioneered a project called “Isubilo” (Hope) in partnership with IICD. We recorded a number of tracks under CYPRO but they remain shelved. In 2015, I released my first single ‘This God’ on which I worked with TC and produced by RT.
Talk to us more about your latest release
My latest release is “In love with a good girl”. Is a dancehall-Hip-hop/RNB fusion produced by RT who also did a verse and backed on the chorus. I brought the Amazing Cool Dizzy on board to add that much needed Hip-hop flavour and dynamism.
What inspired you to write this release?
When I first wrote this song it was a case of pure fantasy. But I re-did it this time around from a different perspective as I have that one inspiration for whom this song perfectly describes how I feel! It was a pleasure working on this track. I remember calling Cool Dizzy asking him to feature on this track and as a true brother he did it with such a passion!
Any plans to release a video?
Due to a couple of hiccups I couldn’t work on the video but future plans are in place for one.
Any plans to hit the road?
Yeah, I have plans of touring towards the end of the year. But don’t worry, you’ll be the first to know.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
My style is unique and I always strive to remain unique. It’s all about giving your fans what they want and when they need it. I use every tool I can to always a step ahead.
Who have you been listening to lately?
I’ve been listening to my own song obviously but I’ve also been listening to a lot of John Legend, Buju Bunton, Sean Paul, Magic, SIA, Nelly, T.I., among others. I listen to any great song out there and I’m a huge fan of a lot of artists’.
Tell us about your passions
I hope someday soon I get to exercise my architectural passion and photography. These are my ideal go to activities when I’m not in the studio.
What else is happening next in your world?
I’m working on a couple of singles for release in around May – June. And possibly an album before the end of the year. But you never know, I might give you a surprise! Just watch this space.
Thanks for an awesome interview, Samuel!
