Tell us about yourself and your music
I am based in Ipswich, England and am an independent singer/songwriter who writes mostly by myself but has also written some songs with my producer Eli Turay and a few local Ipswich musicians. I don’t class my music as R&B or puree Soul as it has elements of lots of other styles – for example, Reggae, Dance, Afro-House and Rock too. I have 2 albums out already -Closser (2014) and Paid The Cost (2016). Right now I’m working on my 3rd album due for release before the end of the year.
Talk to us more about your latest release
My latest album which is not released is called ”Finding Kaci. I have recently put out 4 songs from it on SoundCloud as a teaser ‘-.It deals with my experiences the past year, my marriage broke down and my wife ran off with our youngest daughter Kaci. I haven’t seen her in close to a year and still am no closer to finding her – I hope she will hear this album one day and know what I really felt for her. There are also some songs dealing with Love, state of the music industry right now for us Indie artists (Light It Up) and other songs deal with hypocrisy
What inspired you to write this release?
This song is from my album Finding Kaci. Its called Super-Fine My Oh My. It’s about an imaginary girl who I’m trying to find.
I am terrible in relationships – my marriages don’t seem to last, so I was singing about an idealistic person – apart from being super hot, she is unfortunately also a mystery.
Describe the writing and recording process
I normally get the melody first, then write lyrics based on the melody. Most of my lyrics from all my previous work have deep and personal meaning. I then hum the beat to my Producer Eli and he comes up with what he thinks I’m trying to get Lol Sometimes I don’t agree with the way the music is going and we change that , and a few times he asks me to change the style or rhythm in which I am singing and the song turns out to be slightly different to what I had originally planned
Any plans to release a video?
Yes, I have a few guys I usually work with when it comes to videos. My last album Paid The Cost, had a very enjoyable video for the song So Many Things. I will get Andy Merz, the Director of that video to do the next few.
Please take a look at So Many Things – below
Any plans to hit the road?
I sing whenever I get the chance. There is not much opportunity for my type of music in Ipswich, however, some bigger cities like Norwich are always welcoming
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
I dress the part- my style is retro and my clothes are not the current fashion, however, they are flashy and stand out – I’m like saying ‘Check me out – I’m who I am.’
Who have you been listening to lately?
Leon Bridges and Michael Kiwanuka. I always listen to Lionel Richie too though as I like the simplicity as well as heartfeltness of his songs
Who are your biggest influences?
Lionel Richie, Prince, Stevie Wonder, The Bee Gees, Bob Dylan, Tupac, De La Soul, Michael Jackson, Otis Redding, Don Williams and Marvin Gaye
Tell us about your passions
My children, they are my everything. I love them so much and that is why it pains me not to see my daughter who was taken from me. I am also passionate about Children s Charities, hence I have raised funds doing 10KM runs for a Neonatal department and I am also into Save The Children etc
What else is happening next in your world?
I love running and going to the gym – I wrote the melody to most of my songs when I run or when working out in the gym. I have also recently celebrated 1 year being a vegetarian
