Artist Interview: Lorin Guy
Tell us about yourself and your music
Lorin Guy, 60+ years old the music has morphed into a more country veined version of stories and characters met on the way, Americana if you will. Reflective the melodies weave a tapestry of life’s missed chances and good luck.
Now residing in the fertile Silicon Valley of California, I’m is taking life one day at a time, playing in clubs and doing some Open Mics adding an occasional house concert or festival. Playing my own style of the longingly hopeful reality-based songs, I’m gathering a following of acoustic fundamentalist who’s own aspirations follow the life path laid down in tune.
Compatriot, assistant, muse, conscience and soul mate Kathryn keeps me grounded in the substances of life. Holding court in our Silicon Valley home, together and inseparable.
Talk to us more about your latest release
The New Cd entitled “the Road we walk is the Road we choose” Folk, story-based songs, touching on country Icons recently departed as well as historic insights. Looking to release September 2017.
What inspired you to write this release?
A few songs brought to light by Devine intervention and some just hashed out on a long songwriting weekend. Never the less they are coming and have to be written down and worked out.
Look after a year of positive traction with little of NO effort on my part I decided 2017 was going to be a push it year for me. The USA-Today interview on “Dad Rock” and the local Tv special, with Tim Erskin at My Tune Tv. and then 6 radio stations picking up the Legend of Joe Leonard ( the Joe Leonard video’s doing pretty good too) and Goin’ to Sturgis song, hell it’s been pretty cool.
Any plans to release a video?
I actually have a couple Videos, it’s the older stuff but still fun to watch. Lorin Guy singer/songwriter @ YouTube. also, check out https://loose-gravel.bandcamp.com/releases
Any plans to hit the road?
no current plans, it’s a half a year of songs and studio for us.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
here’s the rub… quality, I’m a songwriter first, If I had to label or brand it, it’s Folk, I’m jus’ looking to sell a song or two to empty out this Bucket list and move on. I’m really not a performer and my few performances although successful have not been full of flare more of introspected and listening enjoyment. Maye a little education too.
Who have you been listening to lately?
I try to listen to as much as possible, most the new Americana bands, impressed with Molly Tuttle, still love the basics, Woody Guthrie, and that folk lot, Country, did listen to a lot Merle, Townes Van Zant , Alt country Williams III and John Paul White, Elizabeth Cook and of course Guy Clark.
Tell us about your passions
lol, besides, my wife and besides music… motorcycles man.. I’m a total vintage bike guy, old cool cars, love that stuff man.
What else is happening next in your world?
Look, I promised myself 2017-18 was going to be all about music, songwriting, trying to find a co -writer and playing buddy. All my old friends are just that… old. AS soon as I get this second Cd done we’re gonna play out but I’m looking late 2018 for that.
Thanks for an awesome interview, Lorin!
