Artist Interview: L.A.W. (LYRICAL ASSAULT WEAPON)

Tell us about yourself and your music

For those who aren’t familiar with me, I’m L.A.W. Which is an acronym that stands for Lyrical Assault Weapon. I’m from New Orleans, Louisiana’s 17th Ward section. And if I had to label or create a genre that describes my music, it would be labeled truth music, because, not only do I spit the truth, but I am “The Truth”!

Talk to us more about your latest release

I am currently working on an album set to release this Fall. The title of the album is L.A.W.~Lion-Hearted! I produced 80% of it, without using any samples. I wrote and composed all the lyrical content of the album in its entirety. It will definitely be considered a gem amongst real hip hop lovers. Those who actually take the time to listen to and for good music of course.

What inspired you to write this release?

Because it’s time for hip hop to step it’s game up! You know, so many of the elders and pioneers of hip hop are frustrated with its current condition. Rightfully so, because hip hop is a craft, a skill to take real-life situations, and put it in rhyme. To teach the youth the game, and jam at the same time. And in my opinion, hip hop is missing the substance that made it what it is. So instead of complaining about it, I feel like, I should do something about it. So now, you have, L.A.W.~ LION-HEARTED.

Any plans to release a video?

I recently released a video introducing the upcoming Lion- Hearted album. I, along with my co-worker Majesty “CityWide” Sozey, shot and edited the entire video. I am not a professional movie or video producer, but I do have a vision!

Any plans to hit the road?

I plan to go wherever God guides me to. I’m humble enough to recognize my talents are a gift, so as I do my best to perfect them and remain diligent, then I truly believe that the road will become heavily blessed by my presence and vise versa. So yes, I plan to be allowed to broaden my horizons, and experience new rewarding things, and places.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

Because I’m willing to say what many artists won’t. See, when you are a free black man, who doesn’t have a price tag, and who understands that the most treasurable things can’t be brought with money, then it makes you bold and fearless. I know how to provide for myself and my family, so my reason for doing music differs from many artists today. I will give the truth and remain raw at the same time. So many people believe you have to water down to be real, but that’s crazy. Being intelligent is gangsta! Being stupid is just stupid! So my music stands out, as well as my brand L.A.W. because I stand out. A free black man in America is rare to believe it or not! And when I say free, I mean physically, mentally and spiritually!

Who have you been listening to lately?

I must say, T.I. most definite. I love the direction he is going, as not only an artist but a black male. Rick Ross also, I like his music. Also 3D’Natee. She’s an inspiration to me. Her work ethic is impeccable!! She’s the true undisputed Hustler in my eyes!

Tell us about your passions

My son, my daughter, my bae, and my black family. My people are always on my heart and mind because I hate the condition we are in as a whole. I want to have a positive impact on my people, so I strive for excellence to create a better future for the generations to come. So many forces are against us! So we gotta have some soldiers in the camp willing to fight for our rights as human beings.

What else is happening next in your world?

Thanks for an awesome interview, L.A.W.!
