Artist Interview: Hipper
Tell us about yourself and your music
I am Tom, a 17-year-old artist from Hungary. My rapper name is Hipper, this just comes from my passion, Hip Hop. Music has always been a part of my life, my parents are big old school hip-hop fans. I started writing lyrics at the age of 8, well, to be honest, those were absolute trash but everybody has to start somewhere. My serious music career started in August of 2016. Back then I was making rap in Hungarian but a couple months later I switched to English. My first inspirations were Eminem, 50 Cent, Kanye, Jay-Z. Recently I’ve turned my cheek into the direction of the storytelling rap. I think that’s all I have to say about me for now, I let the music speak.
Talk to us more about your latest release
This is my first mixtape, called Island Of Freedom. This was released back in May and it was a big milestone for me, my first actually well put together and planned out project.
What inspired you to write this release?
I came up with the name while watching a documentary about Donald Trump. I want a place where everyone can be happy”. That’s what the whole mixtape is about, me being free and doing any type of music I want.
Describe the writing and recording process
The writing was hard at the beginning, I have the tendency to have a writer’s block whenever I want to write. But a tip for any artist: just write. Believe me. So I started doing that. The making of the mixtape was around the time when I started making beats too, you can find one of my beats on the album too in the song Time To Leave. About the recording, that was always easy for me. I think this is what I’m born to do.
Any plans to release a video?
Not for this project.
Or not yet.
Who knows what the future holds.
Any plans to hit the road?
Same here, I don’t think I have the budget yet but with the next project or after that I definitely want to do some kind of tour.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
I portray emotion with words. In rap form, in singing form, in speaking. That’s what I’m all about, helping people understand themselves.
Who have you been listening to lately?
For the project, I’m working on the inspirations are 6Lack, Kid Cudi, Asap Rocky, Drake, Bryson Tiller.
Who are your biggest influences?
Oh, that’s definitely J Cole, Eminem. Both influenced my life and my music so much. You can see their influences in my style too.
Tell us about your passions
I’m doing bodybuilding for almost 5 years now, I like to do photography, graphic design and design clothes. I’m versatile.
What else is happening next in your world?
Another project that’s coming very soon. I hope I get to do an interview about that too. I’m planning some giveaways too, just to give some love back to the people.
Thanks for an awesome interview, Tom
