Artist Interview: Gran Centennial
Tell us about yourself and your music
Well, My Name is Gran Centennial a hip hop artist from Philly. My style of music can be characterized by an old school mix with a new school. Very versatile in what I write about depending on the mood. For example, I love to do lots of party songs to connect with my fans, but at a time I can write conscious rap as well to uplift and motivate.
Talk to us more about your latest release
Currently i have release 4 singles, last time a song about reminiscing on back when hip-hop was in the boom bap era second single Big Boss Man one of my favorites that speaks to flossing and having fun, third single Bread in ma pocket another club banger that tells a story about clubs, money and boss level living. Last but not least, From the Muscle is a song about the struggles of the rap game and my grind to stay relevant.
What inspired you to write this release?
Being a struggling starving artist chasing my dream and not letting anything or anyone deter me from my goal of being a successful hip-hop artist.
Describe the writing and recording process
The usual process is I pick the track. Write and arrange the song
Study it before I actually start the recording process. I would usually record the demo version, take it home critique it and then later go back in an record a final revised version after making the necessary changes.
Any plans to release a video?
The current plan to release several videos in the new year 2019. I currently have a video we just release with my affiliated group 144,000 chosen few entitle The Swarm which I can honestly say is a masterpiece. Its a music see as well as the single is a must have
Any plans to hit the road?
Currently been working on a tour with Topics for the 2019 year. Also plans to tour overseas as well.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
One way is I still go old school. I show up at clubs, I’m in the streets, posters, download cards, still pass out hard copies, flyers as well as all social media outlets
Who have you been listening to lately?
I listen to all genre of music no one specific or in particular. I like Drake, 6Nine, Lil Wayne, Meek Mills, Future, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Migos. Then at the time, I could rock with Redman and Method Man, Jadakiss, Jay-Z, Nas, Biggie and Tupac. I just music. Being into music, I even like to listen to a few independent artists every now and then which CDs I have collected from the underground independent circuit.
Who are your biggest influences?
Jay-Z, KRS One, Nas, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Run DMC, to name a few which I grew up in that era of Hip Hop. Current influence is Future, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and Meek Mill, Lil Wayne. I like what they are doing for hip hop right now
Tell us about your passions
My passion is helping others
I work with mentally challenged individuals, substance abuse population and individual with disabilities. Such a rewarding feeling to help make a difference in someone else life.
What else is happening next in your world?
I would like to explore some acting. I’ve had a few roles/lines in 2 independent films through Elements Media Network entitled “Determined” and “Jupiter Rose”
