Artist Interview: Goodfella QP
Tell us about yourself and your music
I’m a rapper born and raised in Houston, Texas with early influences from the likes of Lil Keke, T.I., UGK, R.I.P Pimp C; Scarface, Outkast, Dungeon Family, Tupac, Biggie, Nas, EPMD, Busta Rhymes, and Etc. My style is quite Southern with a heavy hip-hop influence mixed with wordplay and passion. My music speaks to the soul of my supporters.
Talk to us more about your latest release
Right now I’m working on two projects is open. One being my second solo project “All4One & the other a compilation project “All In” with Houston artist Prep Dolla. Both projects are set to be released on all digital platforms August/September 2018 and I’m excited about both of them simply due to the growth in my artistry. You’ll definitely be able to hear it compared to my first project Lionheart.
What inspired you to write this release?
This release was inspired by my brothers and I and our bond pretty much. The title all for one has a descriptive meaning, being there are four brothers who are all for each other. It’s also the same from one of our favorite movies from when we were kids The Four Musketeers. The first project I feel like was my introduction and to the rap world and my second project, I just wanted to pay homage to my brothers because they’re really part of the reason why I do this. LOL who knows my next project may be and how much to my kids.
Describe the writing and recording process
My writing process is pretty much based on my feelings, thoughts, and emotions so I have tons of vs finished and unfinished that I’m able to puzzle together to get a complete song. Another part of my writing process is writing to the actual be when I hear it. Being that I love writing it just comes natural, the writing process that is. The recording is a bit different I don’t like to go to the studio and write I prefer to go to the studio and simply record. That way I’m in and out.
Any plans to release a video?
Yes definitely working on releasing new videos for singles from both “All4One” & “All In”. Subscribe to my YouTube channel for up to the minute updates, & all visuals. Check out the video for my single “Moment of Clarity”.
Any plans to hit the road?
I’m preparing to hit the road later this year at the beginning of October headed to Atlanta and Miami but the more the merrier. For booking & features contact me via email at [email protected]
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
To me to keep for standing out it’s simply being different get remaining true to yourself. Listen to not under my music but to the manner in which I speak, it’s different from what you hear from your typical rapper. It’s the same thing with me as a brand, yeah I’m a rapper but my distinct uniqueness is what sets me apart from the norm. Even down to the way that I dress I don’t think I dress like a rapper or any rapper today.
Who have you been listening to lately?
Right now my playlist consists of Rick Ross, T.I., Lil Keke, Scarface, YFN Lucci, Torey Lanes, Big Kit just to name a few. I like bars & lyrics so that’s what I listen to, that’s the music I’m a fan of.
Who are your biggest influences?
My family as a whole is my biggest influence especially my kids. I hope I motivate them to chase their dreams simply by them seeing me chasing my dreams. Outside of my family 1st, the world is my 2nd biggest influence. I believe in the power of connecting & changing peoples lives through communication & music is how I communicate. To connect with someone that I’ve never met through words is powerful.
Tell us about your passions
I love the hustle, the grind. To get up every day & work for your keep. I love that with a passion. That’s something no one can take from you & it builds character. To get up & get my own is the most American trait I have. It’s something about having what you worked hard for, no matter how long it takes to get it. When you get it it’s yours. So even without music, I’m still a businessman. Reading is another passion of mine also, I read as opposed to watching tv on the regular.
What else is happening next in your world?
I want to get into fashion & modeling definitely. I’m working on a clothing line “Lionheart” so expect to hear great things from that in the future. Me being a writer, I’m working on getting a poetry book published also. I’ve thought about writing movies but my heart doesn’t match my mind as of yet to do so. I want to build & community centers in low-income neighborhoods & rebuild those same neighborhoods. Invest in black-owned business is key to me also. I’m a businessman so I’m open to doing business as long as it’s beneficial to all parties involved.
Thanks for an awesome interview, Quinten
