Artist Interview: Ghetto Men
Tell us about yourself and your music
Well, Ghetto Men is the is the Brooklyn based super consisting of Smiz The Moneykid, Villa Dom, FLM and P. Bombay. We all began as solo artist and came together to form this super talented hip hop group in 1992/1993 whose music speaks to the ills and pitfalls of the ghetto i.e. Ghetto Mentality aka Ghetto Men. Our music is very rugged and straight forward and our life encounters become the backdrop and soundtrack to what we call “…educated street ish”. Our first single released in 1996 was a song entitled “Street Life” followed by the album “N It 4 Life” released in 2003 and “13 1 Hits Wonders” relaedsed in 2003. Since then the group has been working on different projects. In 2016 Smiz The Moneykid released his debut solo album “Pardon My Back” and Villa Dom released his solo debut album “Tell The World I’m Coming” in 2016 as well, FLM currently has his new single out entitled “My Black Is Beautiful” featuring P. Bombay and Roshay-Shela and P. Bombay is working on his solo project as well. Out of that indie grind of Ghetto Men formed a super hip hop business group called “The Office Boys NY” consisting of Smiz The Moneykid aka Mr. Professional and Villa Dom aka Mr. Briefcase. The Office Boys NY has become the leaders of the true indie movement with the release of their new single “I’m So Indie” and their morning radio show “The Morning Cook-Up Show” which airs every Wednesday morning from 11am-12pm followed by the world famous “Afternoony Show” which airs from 12pm-1pm on Poetic Designs Radio via blogtalkradio, you can listen live on your cell phone or smart devices at 657.383.0107.

What inspired you to write this release?
The song “Grow Up Like Me” was inspired by the hardships of growing up in a single parent family and being determine not let our kids grow up like us and make the mistakes that we made as a result of a broken home.
Any plans to release a video?
We currently have videos for the song “Worth Millions from the “N It 4 Life” and “Back To The Grungy” from the “13 1 Hit Wonders” album. Villa Dom has a video for his single “Smell The Roses” as well as “Guided Lane”, Truamas and Domas” & “Night Hustle” and Smiz The Moneykid has a video for the song “Dead Slave” off of his “Pardon My Back” album.
Any plans to hit the road?
All tours plan are in the works now.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
Well as indie artist we are already privy to the business of the music industry with Smiz The Moneykid being a graduate from The Institute Of Audio Research for recording, engineering and producing and Villa Dom having a bachelors of science in business of music from Full Sail University, these elements create a different form of music as well as a different approach to how to be a successful indie artist. We have taken what we’ve learn from school and the streets and have applied it to the our process of recording, creating and promoting our music.
Who have you been listening to lately?
Outside of our own music and new artist we are grooming to uplift the culture p, the only other artist we listen too is a super talent artist by the name of Frankie Storm, check her out…she’s the future of the music industry, trust me!
Tell us about your passions
The desire to make history everyday, nobody is promised tomorrow so we strive to do the most productive things with our time. We care about our community and the people within it because with them then who would we be? We are all the products of our environment rather we choose to be or not. Our personalities, our likes and dislikes are all shaped by how and where we grow up.
What else is happening next in your world?
More music, more power and more righteousness! We got a few books in the works and plans for a movie coming coming soon.
