Artist Interview: Freddy echiverri

Tell us about yourself and your music

I was raised in a middle class family in central Kentucky with Father that was Filipino and an Irish heritage mother. Youngest of 5 siblings and the only boy it made for an interesting and fun upbringing. I was influenced by my sister’s record collections, which included Rock, alternative, pop, soul, R&B, almost everything under the sun. I have taken all those influences and melded them into my own distinct sound, that evokes memories and is an homage to my many influences.

Talk to us more about your latest release

Mr. Moon, released last year and has been met favorably by critics and fans alike. It is an album that I wanted to build and create to try and explain what I hear in my head. Produced by local producer and musician Matt Adler, he added that complexity and youthful mind set that help freshen my sound and direction.

What inspired you to write this release?

To prove to myself that you can do it alone. I didn’t want to wait around hoping to be discovered or hoping my timing was right. Just challenged myself to do something that I always thought was impossible. Thanks to technology and self belief my songs have a voice now and don’t have to hang out in my head and/or living room. I just hope that it touches someone in a positive way and/or have a person listen to it and feel like that someone shares their emotional state.

Any plans to release a video?

That depends on the need. I would like to put one together for the title cut Mr. Moon but sometimes priorities wont allow for that budget. Plus, I don’t want to do a half-ass version of a video. I want to really make it come alive and that is hard to due on a limited budget.

Any plans to hit the road?

I play selected show as my schedule allows. If they build it they will come, or rather, if you play it will they show? My belief is you build listeners today by internet exposure, internet radio and YouTube plays. The live show is great, if you already have a build-in fan bass, but if you are trying to create one it is tough.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

I want to be distinct in my sound and my image. Unconventional, while giving comfortable feeling like you been there before. Familiar but new.

Who have you been listening to lately?

Lots of Twenty One pilots, Kings of Leon, Panic! at the disco, mostly guitar driven.

Tell us about your passions

My family and kids. To be the best father and husband I can be, while exposing my kids to beauty of the of the world and the world of music.

What else is happening next in your world?

Working on a follow up. I have written over 30 songs since the MR Moon release and this collection of songs is a little darker. Then possibly after completing my 3rd album I plan to finish a couple of books that i have been writing in my spare time.

Thanks for an awesome interview, Freddy!
