Artist Interview: Dough SanTino

OFFTHACHAIN-COVER

Tell us about yourself and your music

My name is Dough SanTino and I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. I grew up on the east side of the city in an area that was known for having a lot of drugs and encountered acts of violence. My music is basically a reflection of the things I either saw, heard or have done myself. Everything I speak on is personal and from the heart.

Talk to us more about your latest release

My latest release would be my mixtape titled “Off Tha Chain”. I chose this as the name to represent just being completely free. Free from all the things that can hold you back as a person, but also be free spiritually and mentally.

What inspired you to write this release?

The love of music and the will to express myself through music overall inspired me to make this release.

Describe the writing and recording process

Basically, I sat down with a few of my producers and we went through some of the beats they made. I try to write whenever I have time to so I just selected beats that sounded like they would fit the material I already had written. A few of the other songs were created organically in the studio where my producer started to make a track and front of me and I just caught a vibe.

Any plans to release a video?

I’ve already released a number of videos from the project and I still have a couple more in the works.

Any plans to hit the road?

I definitely want to hit the road and showcase my talents all over, but I only have shown in my city at this point in time.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

Recently I’ve made clothing with my brand on it that I wear to performances. I also give out business cards to my social media and my official website.

Who have you been listening to lately?

Really I have only been focusing on bettering myself and making more music. I listen to other people here and there.

Who are your biggest influences?

I am heavily influenced by 2pac. Biggie, Nas, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, and Rick Ross are a few others who I listened to a lot of.

Tell us about your passions

Just being overall better in every area of my life…. physically, mentally, spiritually and just trying to do whatever I can for my loved ones.

What else is happening next in your world?

More music, more videos, more shows, more money, more of everything!

Thanks for an awesome interview, Derek
