Artist Interview: Dead Inception

Artist Interview: Dead Inception

Tell us about yourself and your music

After playing guitar for several years in the sweltering desert hell of Phoenix, AZ then being relocated to Cottonwood, AZ after nearly losing my life in a motorcycle accident in April 2008, I began tracking Dead Inception Summer 2011. With growing interest in my music I was asked to play shows by Phoenix area promoters eventually leading to me performing the songs I wrote off my first 2 Dead Inception albums Programmed Insanity (2011), Serving The Dead (2012), Barbaric Excisions (2016) making Dead Inception the most brutal one-man band in AZ. I performed as a one-man band from April 2014- March of 2017 playing shows in Southern California, Tijuana Mexico, and all over AZ.
I moved back to Phoenix in late 2016 to get back to the metal scene and was Fucking tired of living in the boonies. Shortly after moving to Phoenix my friend Chris Crane that I met through playing some of the same shows joined Dead Inception as a drummer and we quickly became a fan favorite in AZ.
I started promoting shows in 2016 as Sadistic Entertainment, bringing an onslaught of metal to Cottonwood which I called the Verde Valley Metal Invasion bringing 10 death metal bands into town. Being rooted in the AZ metal scene it became necessary to move back to Phoenix and as soon I did I started promoting shows at the Palo Verde Lounge and took Dead Inception to another level of grind.
With early metal influences like Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Dying Fetus, Suffocation, Lord Gore, and Mortician I began to develop my sound as far what I wanted my vocals to sound like and what guitar riffs I liked to play. Someone told me I sound like thrash death metal grind, I guess that kind of makes sense looking at my influences. I’ve always listed to Exhumed since I first heard them in 2004. I like the intense energy of what Grindcore bands like Napalm Death, Phobia, and Wormrot are doing. We want our style of gore-grind to sound as extreme as possible.

Talk to us more about your latest release

We recently released our 4th self-released album CONSTRUCTS OF DECAY with 25 tracks of gore-grind, thrashy death metal. This is the debut album with Chris Crane on drums and I tracked guitar, bass, and vocals.

What inspired you to write this release?

We got together and started jamming and it was so badass sounding that we had to record what we wrote. The pits just keep growing and the ideas keep flowing. As far as the ideas behind this release they are mostly the exposure of a sadistic society and a fucked up system that may use religion as a front which is preserved in and of itself. We also scream cannibalism and talk about some depraved shit because that’s what our fans like.

Describe the writing and recording process

We have good band chemistry so we jam and get that sound we want and turn it into a song. Songs come from what we feel sounds good, what we feel makes the cut for what we play then add lyrics, just like that you got a song. Music can’t be forced or it sounds like shit, it has to be the same sound every band member is going for.
