Tell us about yourself and your music
I’m Caroline McLavy, an electro pop artist from the UK. I’ve worked in the music industry since I was 16. I run a rehearsal room and a music equipment hire company. Until recently, I ran a live music venue as well. Most of the bands and artists that I work with are rock, metal or punk based, so I do feel that influence from time to time, but my calling has always been electronica. I love a good synth riff with an awesome bass growl. I’m the kind of artist that loves to produce an upbeat pop tune that can be listened to on a surface level or more intently – depending on the listener’s preference.

What inspired you to write this release?
I suppose you could say life experience, an insatiable love of electro pop, and a good synth riff. Music is always a good outlet to process a situation, whether writing or listening.
Any plans to release a video?
Yeah, I’m actually in the process of filming right now, so they’ll be more added to my YouTube channel over the next month. I did a video for ‘Constant Pain’ – the first track on the album – a while ago and followed this up with some lyric videos. I’m getting back into more animated ones now. I love the artistic aspect of what you can do to represent the music in a visual form.
Any plans to hit the road?
I am playing Silicon Dreams Festival in Liverpool on July 8th, which I’m looking forward to immensely. Earlier this year, I played at Threshold Festival, and last year, I played a lot of gigs all over the country. This year, I’ll be focusing more on recording. I’d like to go back out there with a few new songs on my set list.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
I work with a lot of musicians and artist for a living, so from an indie grassroots level, I can honestly say it is very rare that I come across other electro pop acts. When I do, there’s like a sense of ‘knowing’ how hard it is in this field. From a branding perspective, I think electro pop is very statement orientated. I’ve been told on multiple occasions that my album cover is a very accurate representation of the music.
Who have you been listening to lately?
Recently I saw Future Islands at Rock City in Nottingham. I loved their album Singles. Their style and sentiment really appeal to me.
Tell us about your passions
Well music is what gets me out of bed in the morning, but then that’s just to let bands in to rehearse! Personally, I like to think that I have well-rounded interests. I love history, historical buildings, and traveling. I also love science, nature, space, and geology. They are really all the same fascination: how we got to where we are. That’s what attracts me. I love asking questions that can or cannot be answered.
What else is happening next in your world?
I’m having a really busy year, which is great. My focus is on getting a new album out next year. At the moment, I’m in the early stages of writing songs, which I love. The brainstorming and soul-searching I am enjoying very much. Apart from that, I’m busy filming and I have a couple other projects that I’m working on that should come to fruition by the autumn.
