Artist Interview: BlackCaesar

Tell us about yourself and your music

I was born in North Carolina currently a resident of Texas. My music is a reflection of my life growing up and all the things that molded me into the man I’ve become. At this point in my life, my focus is on making hit songs and relating to my fans.

Talk to us more about your latest release

My latest album is titled Nothing But the Greatest. I chose that name because I wanted to genuinely give my fans a great project from the intro to finish. I chose to release it on my daughters birthday Nov 9th which has a special meaning to me because that’s the greatest gift I ever received.

What inspired you to write this release?

I was working on this release for 3-4 years. Before my daughter was born I had premonitions of my own future and even saw her coming about. So some songs mention the fear of growing up and not being a good father or not being there due to my own childhood experiences and my hopes of being different from my own child. Aside from that the songs mainly reflected my lifestyle at the time and the man I’ve become.

Describe the writing and recording process

Writing this project was definitely a fun job, I literally spent countless summer days and winter nights in the studio with my partners working around the clock. We made so many songs at the time we just had a vault of music to listen to.

Any plans to release a video?

My most recent video out right now is called “Make Her Sweat” which was gonna be on Nothing But The Greatest but I saved it for a later project for my group.

Any plans to hit the road?

No plans of touring as of yet just only performances throughout Texas. Once we reach a certain goal I shall expand and plan a future tour.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

Musically I listen to what’s currently out and playing and try to steer away from the obvious sounds or flows. Marketing is where it’s at as far as standing out. I manage my own label with a few artists so we all have our own style and pitch in to get ads or promotion anyway we can.

Who have you been listening to lately?

The album I’ve had on repeat lately is from Pusha-T “Daytona”. I grew up in the Clipse era of music and love east coast music. He and 50 cents are my biggest inspirations.

Who are your biggest influences?

My biggest influences again say 50 cents and Pusha-T. Their music is literally timeless.

Tell us about your passions

My family is my motivation. Every day I ask myself if I die did I do enough for them? Are they gonna be ok? Was I a good father and boyfriend? I just want my family to be in a great place so I use that as my weapon to prosper when I write songs.

What else is happening next in your world?

Currently focused on getting my group name out and gaining us more fans. Everyone has music lined up and projects ready to drop so we’re preparing for the new year with our new releases.

Thanks for an awesome interview, Julius
