A prologued interview with Preme-O.

Tell us about yourself and your music

I am a Hip-Hop Recording Artist from Bronx, NY. and my music is an expression of my personal experiences. I’m also a Certified Pro Tools Music Operator, Audio Engineer, Music Producer, Businessman, and Entrepreneur. The name of my company is Supreme Productions & Entertainment L.L.C. I established it in 2013. My company’s website is https://www.supremessound.com.

Talk to us more about your latest release

My latest release is a song called “Spirits”. It is dedicated to all those who are deceased and no longer with us physically but still here in spirit with us.

What inspired you to write this release?

My song “Spirits” is my latest release.  The official music video is viewable on my new YouTube VEVO Official Artist Channel (npremeoVEVO).  I wrote this song years ago after one of my friend’s passed away.  I was also still heavily grieving the loss of my mother and father who had passed about two and three years before my friend.  I stopped working on it for a while then finished it to complete it for a different album at the time.  I decided to release it in 2020 when the epicenter of the CoronaVirus Pandemic was in New York City, where I live.  I know a few people who lost a lot of people they were close to because of Co-Vid 19 and could relate to their pain so I decided to release it ahead of time as a way to help those who heard it and can relate to it cope with it.  One of my friends who did not have Co-Vid 19, died days before I shot the video in the back of the building where we grew up .  Part of the video was shot in front of the vigil that was made in his memory there.  I am currently self-producing, directing, editing, engineering and sometimes shooting the footage (if necessary) for my music videos.   I’m leveraging my background in I.T. and multimedia authoring to make them the best I can on a very limited budget and small cast if any.

Describe the writing and recording process

My writing process is not well defined.   I have been rapping so long that a lot of times, I think of the rhymes in my head while I’m thinking of the beat in my head outside of the studio and not listening to the beat.  Sometimes, I write them on paper to help me “iron out the wrinkles” in them if necessary and if not I will type them on my computer when I get a chance.  Even if I don’t write them down, I type them out though.  Sometimes, I can complete a whole song without writing it down first and/or typing it out.  There are also times where I’m in a zone in the studio and everything is right and I record the verse or song parts before I write or type it.  I figure I can go back and engineer it afterward or later.  I’m a certified Pro Tools Music Operator and have a studio in my home so I record at will, any day and anytime.  The main thing I have to balance running a studio and business at home is taking care of my son but that is not a problem.  He knows that his father makes music for a living, likes my music, and is proud of me.

Any plans to release a video?

Any plans to hit the road?

I started performing my music at venues in the Bronx in the middle of 2018.  Then in 2019, I performed at the NYC Radio Pushers Music Festival at The Delancey in New York City My next show was at a Coast 2 Coast Live artist showcase at The Sunnyvale in Brooklyn, New York.   All the shows I performed at were great but the show I did at The Sunnyvale in Brooklyn was the largest and best show I have done so far in my career.  DJ Seizure of Coast 2 Coast Live took that song him on a six-city tour.  That was a few months before Co-Vid 19 hit New York City.  Since then, I decided to postpone all my life in person performances until mass gatherings like concerts are permitted again in the United States.  I’m currently learning more about performing live online and have a Coast 2 Coast Direct to Exec Video A&R challenge event on 8/12 at 2pm Eastern Standard Time.  I think one of my music videos will be viewed by an A&R at Roc Nation, Motown, and/or Atlantic Records.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

I brand myself as much more than an Independent Music Artist.  I am an artist, entrepreneur, and producer.  The business I own is Supreme Productions & Entertainment L.L.C.  The company’s brand is “Supremes Sound” which means “make the best quality sounding songs as possible” to me and the combined lyrical and musical quality of the songs I produce and co-engineer are what make me stand out from other artists out there.

Who have you been listening to lately?

Lately, I have been listening to Nipsey Hussle, Mozzy, J Stone, Troy Ave, Dave East, Yo Gotti, Lil Baby, and Meek Mill.  However, I’ve been regularly listening to older artists like Nas, Jay-Z, Wu-Tang Clan, Ruff Ryders, Diplomats, Lil Wayne and etc. since back in the days.  The female artist I have been feeling are Lauren Hill, Remy Ma, Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea, Cardi B, Young Ma, City Girls, Doja Cat, and Megan The Stallion.  A lot of women are doing their thing now in hip-hop instead of it only being like one or two of them doing their thing at the same time.

Who are your biggest influences?

My biggest musical and music business influences are probably artists like Rakim, Slick Rick, Kool G Rap, Nas, 2Pac, Wu-Tang Clan, and Jay-Z.

Tell us about your passions

Beyond media, I love to apply math to solve problems and the creative and technical process of software development.

What else is happening next in your world?

I plan to diversify my business by developing a Software As A Service in the near future before the window of opportunity closes and the business environment is ideal for what I have been working on for a few years now or a competitor emerges in the niche I am developing software to serve.
