While 50 Cent’s fifth studio album continues to experience delays, the Jamaica, Queens rapper is still forging ahead, amassing material at a rapid pace. Disagreements between G-Unit and Interscope have kept his first record since November 2009 from hitting shelves, creating a lengthy gap for fans hungry for new 50.
“It’s been three years since my last album, so I’ve recorded so much material that I’m really excited about trying to get those ideas to the general public so they get a chance to hear it and appreciate it,” he said in an interview with Forbes.
He also plans to forgo another lengthy tour in support of the upcoming fifth LP, saying “This time I’m not sure if I’ll tour the world like I did on my last project, ‘cause it makes my album cycle two years long. So I think I’d like to launch this record and come right back and launch another record following it.”
Tensions have continued to run high between 50, Interscope Records chairman Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre since last summer, when the MC criticized the label for delaying his new release. He attacked Interscope again this month after one of his new tracks leaked, but relented after discovering a computer glitch was responsible.
