15-year-old MC Astro, who recently appeared on the popular competitive singing show X-Factor secured a prize larger than reality TV gold, as he just inked a deal with Epic Records. Joining his X-Factor mentor L.A. Reid at the popular Sony Music Entertainment-owned outfit, the budding hip hop sensation landed his deal amidst a number of rumors which started swirling after his December 1 departure from the reality television show.
Originally suspected to end up with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, the Brooklyn native quickly put the story to rest in an interview with MTV News last month.
“I have never met anyone from Roc Nation. I’d love to, but I’m not signed right now to anyone,” he said. “I just want to be in a place where I’m comfortable 100 percent. I just want to be able to release my music, do my movies [and] everything is fair.”
There’s no further news on when Astro’s debut record will eventually hit the streets, but he’s currently scheduled to appear today on RapFix Live at 4 p.m. EST on MTV.com. Joining him on the show will also be Naughty by Nature and Khalil Kain.
