One of New York’s hip hop veterans made another splash throughout the music scene recently with a fresh mixtape jam-packed with thrilling new beats and rhymes. Raekwon dropped Unexpected Victory on New Year’s Day, offering the 17-track record as free download for the holiday, which fans immediately gobbled up.

With nearly 20 years in the game, this Wu-Tang Clan original continues to remain a relevant force in the rap scene, demanding attention from listeners with his professional attitude and seasoned songwriting ability.

“This mixtape right here is called Unexpected Victory. I call it the Unexpected because it’s unexpected on what I’m gonna give y’all, and on top of it, it’s gonna be victorious,” he said in a recent interview with MTV’s Mixtape Daily.

Remaining true to his hardened hip hop roots, Raekwon spits fiery tracks which touch upon everything from unsolved murders and street hustling to the luxuries of his lavish home. A host of other artists provide pleasant surprises for listeners, including Mobb Deep, JD Era, Capone, Noreaga, L.E.P. Bogus Boys and more. One of the many highlights of the tape is “MTV Cribs,” which takes everyone on a trip through the halls of the popular series featuring Busta Rhymes.
