I am a 26 year old Asian American rock musician, artist and Internet entrepreneur of my art & music in my solo rock project PLB (abbreviated Patrick Lew's Band). I currently am living in Antioch, California here in the San Francisco Bay Area and I graduated a 4-year university at CSU East Bay with a Bachelors Degree in Philosophy during mid 2011.
I've played rhythm guitar and bass previously in a few garage bands with friends as a hobby and to entertain the local San Francisco community. I've been through many many struggles and personal hardships in my lifetime, but it never stopped me from playing and being passionate about playing Rock & Roll music and the guitar. The garage bands I formerly played music in didn't last very long, for a variety of reasons. Although I really love playing guitar and singing in rock bands, I seem to have a lot of trouble finding other friends or people in the Bay Area to play with in a band.
I mostly make music in my bedroom, with the primitive equipment and guitars I own and my own computer. I always had dreams of making success with my music! Even if it means putting it up on the Internet and getting it out there or somewhere. And oh! I am currently engaged to my long-time female friend named Faith. Who I'm currently separated from as she's currently living in Texas fulfilling personal priorities, but she wants to become a part of my QUEST for success as a Rock musician who is Asian and my fiancee Faith is non-Asian!
I mainly fuse a HYBRID of 90's grunge, 60's and 70's classic rock and garage punk musically. I mainly write songs as a diary of sorts, but I also enjoy telling a story through my music through not only songwriting but through Instrumental pieces of music on record. As far as musical influences goes. I'm mainly influenced by the Seattle grunge and rock of the early 90's: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Mother Love Bone, Smashing Pumpkins, Oasis, AFI and Silverchair. I'm also influenced by a lot of classic rock from the 60's and 70's such as Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. I play basically a looser, rawer and sometimes chaotic performance of the music I was influenced by, which leads my friends to describe my music as an unintentional Garage Punk sound. I often describe my music as "the rebellious rock & roll sound of an Asian guitar hero and the struggle." I usually sing musical ideas and stuff normally found in Grunge, social discontent and the freedom for liberation and change.
I haven't really played many live performances experience-wise as a solo musician. But had played a few vaguely recognized small gigs with the garage bands I used to be a part of. As a solo musician though! I've done a few open mic gigs locally. But mainly at the colleges I went to. I usually perform guitar improvisations, sing songs about the struggle and being myself and I somehow when I've done open mics in the past. I've actually entertained and impressed the audience!
One of my goals as a musician and human being is TO BE SUCCESSFUL. And to gain more of an audience for my music and be able to perform more in public as a solo musician who plays guitar and writes songs with the addition of a backup band. I want to play live more, earn success as an Asian American rock musician not because I'm an ethnic minority but I care about making music regardless and I love playing guitar and entertaining people. I am actually willing to do ANYTHING to get that success as an Asian American rock musician and artist to get somewhere, and get my music out there. I also want to be financially secure and willing to do what I love doing, which is my long-time dream of making it in Rock & Roll and music. And be able to play, record and promote music anywhere I can to a wider audience and making what I love and am passionate about the most my career.
As far my band website and social-media presence goes, I often write the latest news and happenings of me. Post new recorded pieces of music through my website whenever. I often am on Twitter, Facebook and MySpace making sure my closest friends and long-time and newer fans of my music get to hear what's new and to have a closer connection to me as a musician. Everything I do as an artist, I operate as an entrepreneur on my own online. I use the Internet as a way of getting my music out there, connecting with fans and friends and creating something that will hopefully catch the interest of those into something unique and dynamic! My headbanger's quest and journey is to gain a wider audience for my music and one-man rock band. And to play more shows with the accommodations of a backup live band. And to make what I am most passionate about what I do for a living.
