Unleashing a wave of sonic creation is Kansas’ MK101, crashing upon the shores of the electronic music scene with the force of a tidal wave and the depth of the ocean itself. A solo act driven by a host of keyboards and other electronic instruments, mastermind Mukhtar Farid harnessed years of experimentation and innovation to create his debut full length album, Music Emulation. Serving as the precursor to the Definitive EP, Farid is moving up the ladder by leaps and bounds, capturing listeners in his web of music every step of the way.
Farid picked up the keyboard at age nine and never looked back, falling down the rabbit’s hole into a world of musical soundscapes and endless possibilities. Primarily influenced by renowned composer, producer, musician, and Academy Award winner A.R. Rahman, he inks a fascinating style which successfully blends multiple genres into something which can only be known as MK101. By borrowing from pop, techno, and classical resources, Farid appeals to fans across the musical spectrum while allowing himself the space to grow and continuously expand his horizons.
Igniting with Music Emulation in 2010, Farid unleashed 14 tracks of synth laden electronica, ranging from upbeat thumpers to calming background rhythms which invite listeners into his expansive world of music. The Kansas native kept busy, diving into his next release almost immediately, and dropped six more tracks with Definitive in early 2011. Keeping his songs from around two to three minutes, MK101 ensures the listener is constantly refreshed and searching for more, changing tempos and vibes with each passing movement.
Farid continues to draw attention on his Jango Radio page, racking up hundreds of fans while continuing to spread the energetic, entrancing moments found within Music Emulation and Definitive. He is always searching for new influences and ideas, building a thirst for composing and writing which propels both albums to awesome musical heights.
